Great Instant Dashi for those who aren't in Japan
I really like this dashi. It's not too strong or too salty, and is not loaded with MSG like some of the concentrated stuff that is available. I use it for miso, rice bowls and for soup stock in general. It's perfect for easy osumashi soup. It's simple to prepare. Even if you don't speak Japanese, the ratios are clear. I just really, really wish it could get here more quickly because I see myself ordering more in the future.

Umami flavor punch!
I love this product! I add it to almost everything from soup and sauce bases to salad dressing. The individual packets are so easy to use and convenient. I keep one in my purse to use at restaurants.

I bought to make oyakadon and it is wonderful. Nice flavor
This was my first foray into Japanese cooking. I bought to make oyakadon and it is wonderful. Nice flavor, not overpowering at all, and easy to use without needing to make dashi from scratch. Next time, I will be ordering the dashi with both bonito and kombu, but I was able to find some kombu locally, so I am using that in the meantime. If you don't use dashi, you should start. There is a reason it's a common broth. Lots of flavor, and it will go with most any protein.

Never tried another brand and never need to. Great flavor and no MSGs - perfect!
Katsuo is truly delicious, the flying fish is okay if you've never tried katsuo or if katsuo is unavailable. Main reason I purchased this is because there is no added MSG. I use this dashi to make homemade miso soup. I love it and will keep buying this brand/product.

Don't be fooled by Fumichomiryo, contains disguised MSG
I can't stand to see innocent buyers are eating MSG without knowing.Japanese industry tried to hide negative image of MSG on a product label and created seasoning mix name"Fumichomiryo" (5 Chinese characters).>>>Amazon stripped the Japanese characters so I am showing Romaji this time.>>>If you copy/paste in Yahoo Japan, its Kanji version should appear. From July 1991,Japanese government allow for industries to state ingredients as amino acid instead of MSG.So companies can avoid the word MSG by using unclear name(amino acid etc.)Japanese government tend to be toward industries, but not consumer side in terms of food safety. So far, I have found x2 good products which really come from foods without chemicals and will keep searching a few more.1) Maekawa-taste'Natural Soup Stock pack, 10gx25P'Special Selection, Japanese Dashi, Product in JapanI have checked Amazon Japan site and read the page with my own language.Good news, it is the one of a few products without MSG.http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%9E%E3%82%A8%E3%82%AB%E3%83%AF%E3%83%86%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88-%E5%A4%A9%E7%84%B6%E3%81%A0%E3%81%97%E3%83%91%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF-%E7%89%B9%E6%92%B0-10g%C3%9725P/dp/B005LER99UsThe company name is here: (copy/past and it will come out first)Maekawa Taste Co.,Ltd2) Kane7 natural soup pack (8g × 50 bags).....not Amazon yet. Miso Schmeeso
I was doing a liquid diet for a few days (a form of the Master Cleanse) and it seemed some hot miso soup would help when my belly felt empty. After googling a recipe for making my own miso soup I ordered a tub of the Hikari miso paste (Hikari ORGANIC Mild Miso Paste - 1 tub, 17.6 oz) and some packets of Katsuo Dashi Powder (Katsuo Dashi Powder (Bonito Soup Stock Powder)). The combo is delicious. My personal favorite variation to make up a batch for the whole family is as follows:2 cups chicken broth2 cups waterOne packet of the dashi powderHeat until barely boiling. Reduce heat and add:1 1/2 Tbs of the miso paste.Stir for a bit and server. This combo has nice flavor but is not too salty. Reduce or increase paste as needed to your salt threshold.cheers!

Really worth the wait from Japan!
I really like this product. Especially this cold season, you can use it for hotpots, noodles and soups. Very tasty and you can store the rest of the broth within a week. Can be frozen too.
