Jst xh and xhp are defined as being 2.5mm, but you list the pitch as 2.54mm (0.1") which is the jst re standard. which one are these?

These are not 2.54mm The ones I got appear to be JST XH which are 2.5mm In short runs of 2-4 pins it is unlikely the .04mm will be a huge issue, but they are not 2.54 so don't be shocked it they done mate to holes on a long 0.1 inch header design...

what gauge wire does it come with?

This ribbon cable is usually 26 or 28 gage

Are there instructions somewhere? or would any instructions for jst connectors be relevant? new to this having trouble seating pins into connectors.

Look for youtube videos. It can be tricky cuz they're so small

Where are the male connector housings? All there are is female.
