This is the perfect food bowl riser - highly recommended!
The media could not be loaded. I almost did not buy this because there are negative reviews that this food bowl riser is "flimsy," "cheap," or "poorly constructed." That is unfortunate because nothing is further from the truth.Rather, those that took away stars or panned this stand in their review either (A) did not read the description and/or directions or (B) do not understand what it means when something is purposely manufactured to be ADJUSTABLE.There is something inherently wrong with criticizing an item because it is exactly what it is described as being and has been built to be - but that is what has happened here with the negative reviews. This food bowl riser is DEFINITELY NOT "flimsy," nor "cheap," nor "poorly constructed." Rather, it is ADJUSTABLE, meaning that it will fit a wide range of food bowls of varying size. No, there are no clamps, etc. to lock the slats and legs into place.Yes, there could be, but then it would cost more for an unnecessary addition.Given that this riser is adjustable means there MUST be a certain amount of play between the different parts. If it were not so, it could not be adjustable.________________________I have used this riser to feed what is now my very large, 1 year old puppy dog for more than 6 months - 2 or 3 meals per day every day. This food bowl riser is the perfect height for him and as I said, it easily adjusts to fit whatever bowl he eats from.Even as enthusiastic as he gets at mealtime, it has never, not even once, tipped over, been knocked over, nor even slid across the floor. It has steadfastly survived each meal with him eating the food, licking the bowl, licking the riser legs, licking the floor under the bowl/riser, and dancing around the kitchen after finishing the meal. This is made out of sturdy bamboo. It adjusts with 1 hand, folds flat using the included Allen wrench in seconds (well, as long as you do not lose the Allen wrench - it is 4 mm wrench if you do lose it, by the way), cleans easily with a damp cloth, and when closed to its smallest footprint it takes up very little room on the shelf. If you need to lift your dog's food bowl off the floor to make it easier to eat, this very-well-build riser will do it for you.Very highly recommended.P.S. The silver ball (Omega Paw Portion Pacer Feeding Ball, ASIN - B0028QHN3G) is to slow down his eating and prevent bloat.________________________P.P.S. For those that do not like that this riser has a little play between the moving parts, you can always size it to fit your specific dog bowl and then permanently secure the slats together with super-glue, nuts and bolts, clips, or whatever, and that certainly would make it seem more solid ...... but then it would no longer be adjustable, would it?

Great!
This definitely slows my chihuahua down! I like that it's weighted so it doesn't roll off the counter!Super happy with my purchase!

Perfect for Slowing Dog's Eating Habit
We tried one of the plastic puzzle bowls, but the dog kept carrying it away after eating and chewing on it. This ball works well enough. We use it in a 6" deep dish bowl. Any larger, the dog can resume gobbling. Easy cleaning too!!! A+++

Does your dog gobble down his food?
Update: I’ve had this for 2 years and it still looks brand new! I hand wash it and it has been a help for my dog that always wants to inhale her food as fast as she can. This ball has been a huge help slowing her down. 🐶😁My dog eats her food like she is in a race to see how fast she can eat. This review is for the single, stainless ball. Note that they also offer a porcelain one, and the reviews are mixed together. This stainless ball has helped slow her down, although she still sounds like a maniac clanging her bowl trying to lick up every bit. This is a large, stainless ball and I think this would be best for medium & large dogs. Measure to see if it will work for the size bowls you use. If you are using very small or very large bowls, this may not work for you. Small bowls this ball will probably be too large, and super large bowls this may not do any good if there is too much space around it where it could just get pushed to one side.I have a medium sized dog, and the ball takes up about half of the bowl, but still allows her to reach the food to get it all. It washes off easily, and has some weight to it. I've never had a problem with her being able to get the ball out of the bowl once it's placed. I think the only way that would happen is if the dog tipped the bowl over completely.I paid about $12 for it & I'm happy with it. I don't think I'd like the porcelain version, and if that were the only option offered, I probably wouldn't feel comfortable purchasing it being that it's porcelain because it sounds fragile. Compared to the bump bowls that already have the bumps in them, I like that I can use them with my current bowls, I have the option to use or not to use, and that the ball is easy to clean. I recommend this ball if you have medium to Large dogs that are fast eaters.

Sturdy
I last purchased this in 2010 and still have it. I bought two for my Great Dane, one for his water bowl and one for his food bowl. It slowed him down because he had to nudge the ball out of the way. He used to stick his entire muzzle into his water bowl too and just gulp but the ball stopped him from ingesting as much water. He passed in 2020 and I’ve passed the ball to our new rescue who is a shepherd mix. Without the ball she finishes her food within seconds. The ball slows her down even though she is the first to finish it makes a big difference. My son and his fiancé have just rescued a large pup so I’m buying one for their pup now.

Puzzle and slow feeders might work better
Great concept. I wish the ball itself was more weighted than it is. Although the large size ball at 3.5" is more difficult for the dog to get their mouth around, my pup was able to nose the ball out of the bowl to get to his food.I thought about buying another ball since just one large ball doesn't fill up the empty space of a 7 cup steel bowl. I think two large balls won't fit evenly in the bowl.Amazon doesn't carry the small version of this currently and I can't be bothered with trying to find the right size combination to fit right in the bowl to take up the right amount of space and then returning the ones that didn't fit.So I think I'm moving onto a slow feeder steel bowl from the manufacturer of my feeding station.

This scares the crap out of my dog
Tried putting it in her feed bowl and she wouldn’t even come near it. Totally freaked out and she loves to eat. You might be better off trying a tennis ball wrapped in tinfoil first before ordering this, specially if you have a skittish dog.

Works like a charm
It did not slow my dog down 5x, but it did slow him at least 50%. The first day it really slowed him down but I think he's figured it out now, so he has a system :)However, he still can't gobble like he used to.I purchased this because it is stainless and I feed raw. I'm not overly excited about rubber slow feeders, so this was perfect to toss in his stainless bowl.Easy clean up too.

Does what expected but more maybe needed
Awesome to stop our 130 lbs Mastiff/Sheppard from inhaling her food. However we bought 3 as she flicks the single ball out. Does the job now though and weighted well.
