Conair ExtremeSteam 1875 Watt Pro Steam Iron

I was devastated when the iron I've been using for the last 11 years finally stopped working. I did a lot of online research for a replacement and discovered to my dismay that standards had slipped with a lot of the brands that were trusted in the past. I have a couple of other Conair items, and they've worked well for me, so I thought I'd try the Conair iron. I am loving it! It produces a lot of steam, it doesn't spit or leak. It's heavy, but I like that, as it means I don't have to press as hard. I like the titanium plate, as it doesn't pit or degrade as other surfaces do. I am very pleased with this purchase.

The iron works fine BUT when I first used it, the written directions were not clear. They did not mention what the red and green light meant. I assumed from my waffle iron that red mean "on" and green means "ready to use". It would be useful to make the raised arrow at the top of the dial indicating on or off, black like the self clean button instead of clear plastic. The start arrow is not listed on the picture of the iron.

Lesson learned - always open the box as soon as the product is delivered. I ordered several items and did not need the iron right away. Unfortunately it sat unopened for over a month - my bad. Just opened the iron - the cap over the water tank is missing, the body of the is all scratched and dented. Looks like it might have been a return that was repackaged and sent out as new when it was not. I am past the 30-day return window so I have no recourse. Just glad this was not a gift for someone.

Wow. This was almost half the price of the other iron model I considered. It gets hot, hot, hot and can get out wrinkles my last three irons could not. I almost gave up on ever having a hot iron again. Makes ironing easy and quick. I hope it lasts. So far so good!

About a decade ago the iron I had had for about a decade finally died. I then went on a horrible journey of buying one iron after another that died within a year or so, sometimes within months. And I am talking about top-of-the-line name brands. They leaked, scorched and the sole plates would be a mess in no time.But this ConAir is really a champ. After 17 months, the sole plate is pristine and it has ironed smoothly and well, but it died suddenly. I replaced it with a less expensive and simpler iron that had a horrible soleplate that gunked up after using it only a few weeks. I am returning it. And, reluctantly, am ordering this Conair model again because no iron seems to last two years any longer, and this is a consumer issue that must be addressed. It appears that manufacturers are making irons (and other products) that do not last so we consumers must purchase them more often than our parents and grandparents did.

My old Rowenta started scorching my fabrics and this was highly recommended by other crafters. Lightweight, and hot but not too hot! Water well does not leak which is so nice. Perfect for the price.
