Overall the industrial design and workmanship of this unit is on par with Zojirushi appliances or Kitchen-Aid mixers. Ergonomics: I like simple food processors. This one is simple in operation. On and off/pulse with high leverage switches. Perfect. The locking mechanisms work well so far without needless faffing. I wish the smaller feed tube was a little larger. The larger feed tube disengages the motor so operations like adding tahini or other messier items slowly have a higher chance of spillage or require a spouted container. I'm suspicious about how easy it will be to trap gunk around the locking mechanisms. I'm also suspicious that there isn't any sort of loading mechanism to keep the chopping blade in place. Ease of cleaning: The manual recommends washing all pieces in the dishwasher. I don't have a newer dishwasher with neat little compartments to keep blades from being knocked around so the chopping blade will get hand washed. I'll update the review to assess how the lexan holds up from several months of dishwashing. I'm not a fan of the stainless steel fascia the machine has since I'd rather have white plastic appliances for their ease of cleaning and smaller visual weight. Absolutely impossible to clean. The bowl also feels flimsy and it’s kind of difficult to close the lid on the bowl. I was expecting the motor part to be more heavy. While I was making dough in it I have to hold it down. This is second food processor as I replacement for the first one, which I used two time for a cream cheese spread and the third time I wanted to use it, I could turn it on. And everything was locked in a place. I was very disappointed, this is not a cheap machine. And the return window is three weeks , I had the processor for four weeks already. desertcart was very good, after speaking to the customer service they made an exception and replace this faulty product. I hope this new one will last. Still it’s nothing to compare to my old Kitchen aid food processor which I still have after more than 30 years and it still works, just seems to be a bit slower. But the motor base is a lot heavier that the one for the Cuisinart and the bowl also made of more sturdy material. It easy to clean, easy to lock the bowl and the lid to the motor bottom. The food processor base shows DFP-14BCN but they added a Y to the box so that they could sell it as DFP-14BCNY. This is false advertising. **Q: this is the model highest rated by ci and atk. so is anyone else ready to rant about the safety feature getting all gross with food? true or false?** A: I don't get it. We love this food processor but can't stand to wash it. Would not put it in the dishwasher. Everything gets stuck in the top and in the mechanism for the top. And it's clear plastic so you can see all the food caught in there, but there is no way to get it out. We can't figure out how it gets in there in the first place. We use the machine as directed. We wash it immediately after use every single time. I try to use the spray at the sink to get the debris out, doesn't help. Tried soaking it. Tried just at least spraying vinegar inside it to prevent bacteria from building up. We have only had it 5 years and have wanted to replace the bowl and top and Cuisinart is out of stock. And I saw them on sale on Amazon for $45. for just the bowl. And the food processor has gone up in price by $50. since we bought it in 2015. So, I am now actively looking for a replacement for this machine, even though it's still working fine. I can't deal with the clean up any more. That one was smaller, so I decided to replace it with this larger (14 c), more powerful version. So far, I love it. Here's my take: - It did a great job shredding mozzarella using the disc (food processor bowl picture), and a decent job of grating parmesan using the chopping blade (pink bowl picture). - I don't have a dough blade, and I had some trouble making pizza dough. I honestly think it was an issue with the recipe rather than the food processor. I will try again with a different recipe. - I think most of the reviewers who had trouble latching the lid were putting it on backwards. - I don't mind the feed chute being on the back of the machine, opposite the buttons. My old processor was configured the same way, and I never had a problem. - This is the same model that is recommended by America's Test Kitchens. All in all, I am quite happy with my purchase.
