Hydra Black Liquid Dye | 250ml Treats up to 1063L - Concentrated Pond & Water Feature Dye | Safe for Wildlife

We have a shallow corten steel water feature that suffered with algae because the water got too warm to support plants. This water dye has been in for two weeks and so far seems to have stopped the algae growing. I only needed 7.5ml (three teaspoons full) to make the water black (actually dark purple). The undiluted dye did stain my fingers so beware.

This product not only deflects the suns rays , preventing the formation of algae, Not only makes the water look beautiful, I chose black which sets off the white water lilies I have, but most importantly for me, is harmless to plant and wildlife. I’ve bought in the past, and will continue to do so. First class .

Wear gloves if you don't want to get the dye on your hand. Takes a bit of washing

Works a charm. Waited until the pond had cleared (it had new pond syndrome - gone dark green about 6 weeks after it was filled, and then went clear again a few weeks later) and then used about half the bottle into the 400 litre pond. Went deep black and looks great like it's a mile deep. You want to be super careful not to dribble any on yourself, your clothes, the slabs around the pond etc... It's been a couple of months now and there's no sign of it fading.

The dye is great. I first saw this being used on a gardening program. Definitely makes the water feature have mirrored effect. You only need a little bit and you can top up when required.

The dye does change water to black but... its also a very faint purple coming through the fountain spout. Tried adding a drop more.. no change. BUT, beware.. it does stain rocks and stones that are in the water!! Not really pleased about that 😕 Topping water levels up, there's no sign of the water fading and from spout its now clear. I will have a go at scrubbing them once fountain is emptied for the winter... fingers crossed!
