TEC Accessories Python Clip - Stainless Steel Keychain Carabiner with Gate Guard

I originally bought my first set of Python clips direct from the TEC accessories website back in mid 2014 and was extremely pleased with them. They were easily worthy of a 5-star rating. I use these clips in conjunction with a dangler clip to carry my keys (on a key smart), a small flashlight and a Leatherman squirt multi-tool. Recently I lost one of the clips and could not be more disappointed with its replacement. The original design of the Python clip was smooth from day 1, not a sharp edge on it, and had a great stonewash-esque finish that really resisted scratching. They were also very strong and never unintentionally released the item it was retaining. These newer python clips however, wow, where to begin? Basically they are the opposite in nearly every way! The new clips come out of the box with rough edges on them and finish is shiny and easily gouged and scratched. Also the new clip unintentionally let go of one of my items within the first week of use, so they clearly aren't as strong either. In the attached picture, the 3-year old original design is on the left, the new version (~2 months old) is on the right. Judge for yourself. I can't recommend them anymore.

This is a good quality product & I got what I expected. The product photo that shows it laying in someone's hand is accurate for getting a sense of its diminutive size.Under product description, it lists accurate dimensions in millimeters (28mm long x 10mm wide). However, in the Features and Details it has dimensions in inches that are idiotically misleading! It is NOT 1.8 inches by 1.6 inches. This may be the size of the little ziploc bag it's packaged in but NOT the clip itself. This really should be amended based on the negative reviews from folks angered by the unexpected small size.Good product but the misleading dimensions in inches really needs correction!

It was strong for the 2 months that it lasted, but the latch keeps coming out of the holes, making the hook unusable and clearly unreliable.

I have been carrying several Python clips on my keying since shortly after they were introduced to the market, and I have been very happy with the original model (matte stainless finish, rounded edges). I just purchased a couple of these clips, and it appears to be a newer model (shiny finish, square edges). Within two days the spring bail popped out of the clip. I replaced it twice, it popped out again twice. I threw it away, and will try the second clip when I get back home. Very disappointing, especially for a relatively expensive gizmo that used to be worth the money.

I don't know if either the issue people had a year or two+ ago wasn't one for me and I simply didn't notice or if it was fixed in between their complaints and my purchase but it's been absolutely great. I've had it for right near 10 months and it's still like new. Key rings fit, the gate hasn't failed or wobbled. I use it for a belt loop pocket lanyard to dangle my Swiss Champ from so it doesn't go sideways down in my pocket but rather hangs vertically in comfort towards the outside of my leg. I haven't needed another one yet but I'll be repurchasing this when I do.

I purchased the 3-clip pack and received beautiful, smooth, strong well-engineered clips just like the pictures. They are perfect for lanyards for your expensive knives / tools / that you may backpack. I immediately ordered more.I see that some people have received poorer items - I will send mine back if I get those.I also caution the buyer to do the math - when I bought, the 5-pack was more expensive per piece than was the 3-pack. I bought five more 3-packs. Again, I do get the poorer type, I will send them back in a heartbeat.

3 months using this on my keychain, usually alternating between a 58mm SAK Manager and a Leatherman ES4. The small size is great, spring is nice and tight, and the gate is shaped so that the item will not come loose easily. So far I have had no issues with the spring coming loose or anything coming unhooked from it. The finish does seem to show some cosmetic scratches, but this does not bother me. It is by far the best keychain hook of this type that I have tried.

Small, strong, and does it's job. The TEC clip is first of all small it is not a "carabiner" to hang stuff off your belt, etc. It is to hang small items onto your keychain and to have easy access to them and remove them as you need. I've tried other clips but these seem to be reviewed as being the most secure. I've had them on my keychain for a month now and have not had any issue with them coming loose. They are quality machined strong clips. Cheers.

This thing needs to be made of gold! Pay attention to what it is, one tiny clip for 41.00 Canadian! I thought there would be several in the pack, but that's my fault it clearly says 1 pack. So you get one tiny one inch clip for 41.00, value for money... Not a chance
