Henny-Penny

This is the most creative and humorous version of Chicken Little I've ever read. So clever, the vocabulary is cheeky, the pictures are fine to look at since they are real animals. My kids enjoy the references to the King. A great addition to my library.

I am long since grown-up. I have grandchildren, and a brother-in- law in Georgia. A few weeks ago he went out into the woods on his property to cut some wood for the fireplace in his home. A strong wind came up and broke a rather large limb off one of the trees. After a while, he arrived back home with a large wound (bleeding a lot) on his head and feeling just a bit wobbly at the knees. I could think of nothing but that famous quote, "The sky is falling!" So I immediately went to Amazon.com and found a copy of "Henny-Penny" and had it sent to him. He had the good grace to see the humor and says his grandson really enjoys hearing this classic! I really enjoyed the beautiful photos and illustrations that complimented this hip updated classic tale. This is Henny-Penny as I had never seen before.

Just be forewarned.I read to Pre-K and Kindergarten and am always looking for very act-able texts, positive and nuances stories and great illustrations. This seemed to have ALL THAT an more. Great collage illustrations, witty, animated. I was reading it out loud beforehand and was LOVING all the voices and characters I'd get to perform for them. And maybe introduce or REintroduce a classic tale I always enjoyed myself.Until the end. I thought Henny Penny's followers would certainly escape after Foxy lured them into his kitchen. But they don't. All the characters I would have brought to humorous life for the kids WOULD DIE. I'm sure this is great for a one-on-one read (and the smaller illustration details are great to explore). But I wouldn't want to be the one to leave their actual teacher to explain to some of the more sensitive kids (or their parents?) why death...graphic death...was dealt with in class.I'd give this a 5 Star for execution. It's stunning. But for Henny Penny's misapprehension to lure ALL HER FRIENDS TO THEIR DEATHS and she gets to go home. Toooo darks for my small ones, in any case.

I picked up this book because I liked the images. It's very creative and rich visually. I love the language in this book. For moms and dads who like to like to get into the telling of the book - this one is fun to get into! Spoiler alert: all the animals get eaten (except for Henny Penny in this book) by Foxy Loxy. I was surprised by this because so many books today have been 'sanitized' for kids, but it didn't bother me. I love this book and plan to make this a gift for my friends with pre-school children.

Terrible book if you like a fox eating all the fowl. I am not sure skanky should be used in a children's book. Really skanky? Worst book. What is wrong with publishers.

Click on this title by accident? Serendipity! Keep reading.If you only buy one version of Henny-Penny, this is the one to have. If you have other versions of Henny-Penny, get this one and use the others for beach fires or scrap paper--THIS ONE IS THE DIVA! Fabulous photography is mentioned in other reviews and they speak truth. The photo art is superb, witty, charming..., but what I love is the language. Get out the voices and get ready to play! This book rocks! It begs to be read aloud, a perfect picture book for even very old children like me.

My child is at that age where she loves music and anything with a rhythm. I remember when I was a child and was told this story; well the tale of the sky falling returns with a new twist. My child spends hours just rapping out the catchy lyrics in this remake of a classic story that all children are guaranteed to like. If you have a child within the ages of 6-15, i would recommend this book.
