No Bad Dogs: The Woodhouse Way

The information is a bit dated in comparison to today’s thinking. In her day she was probably the most high profile but attitude has changed. Far better reading material out there.

I think it fair and honest to say that this lady was BARKING MAD! Please, if you are training a dog for the first time- then look to many of the modern, sensible dog trainers who have written books on the subject. A good approach is to start with books on positive reinforcement training- such as 'don't shoot the dog'- this will give the dog a good grounding: in many cases this will be enough. But, bear in mind that some dogs WILL require 'corrections' in the form of loud voice/direct eye contact/body blocking etc..with some dogs, especially rescue dogs or adult dogs- positive only will not be enough- esp those with aggression issues or low food-drive. A balanced and open approach is usually the best. Avoid any dog trainer that feels that their way is the only way and that everybody else is wrong- Ms Woodhouse definitely fit into this category! Also, avoiding trainers that speak multiple times about euthanising dogs is a good start- Mrs Woodhouse seems to mention this option rather too frequently! BEST TO AVOID THIS OUTDATED AND RIDICULOUS BOOK.

This book should be made compulsory reading for All dog owners, it is factual & very helpful in bringing up your dog to do things the right way!

Endeavouring to re-train very "loopy" daughter's labradoodle. I used this book when training my Labrador many years ago. Had a most obedient lovely dog as a result. So fingers crossed.
