Look, this product smells like fish because it is extracted from the sea and when the fish eats this algae plant, then omega is produced in the fish. Now you guys understand why it smells like this. So do not buy any product based on someone's review, do some research yourself and then buy the product. Algae’s natural scent: The marine microalgae used (like Schizochytrium sp.) can have a naturally oceanic or sea-like odor—similar to fish oil since fish get their omega-3 from algae too. 2. High DHA content: The DHA-rich algal oil may sometimes carry a stronger smell, especially in concentrated or unflavored formulas.

Potency Claims Don’t Match What’s Inside (Batch ALGC25091 — Verified Genuine)
I purchased Rasayanam Omega-3 (Batch ALGC25091) and verified the product's authenticity using the scratch code on the bottle (see photo). This confirms that the product is genuine Rasayanam Omega-3. Unfortunately, after testing the capsules, it appears that the actual ingredients do not match the EPA/DHA potency printed on the label. I'm sharing this to help other customers make informed decisions. ## What is the issue? Each capsule is said to contain: 800 mg "algae powder", and is claimed to provide 225 mg EPA + 75 mg DHA = 300 mg omega-3 This means the capsule would need to contain at least 37.5% omega-3 oil. However: No species of algae, including Schizochytrium, produces biomass with 37.5% omega-3 inside the raw powder. Natural algae biomass typically contains: 0–2% EPA (often 0%) 5–20% DHA (only in enriched strains) This is nowhere near the 37.5% oil concentration needed to match Rasayanam's claims. The only realistic way to reach this potency is by using purified, microencapsulated algal oil, not raw or minimally processed algae biomass. ## What the Rasayanam capsules actually look and behave like After opening the capsule (see photos): * The powder is grey-brown, coarse and earthy * When mixed with warm water, it forms a muddy brown suspension that quickly settles to the bottom. * No milky-white emulsion, no sign of microencapsulated oil droplets. * No oil layer on the surface This is exactly how plain algae biomass behaves. If the capsule truly contained 300 mg of omega-3 oil (EPA + DHA), that would already correspond to roughly 6–10 drops of oil inside each 800 mg capsule. In reality, it would need to be even more oil, since omega-3 oil is never 100% EPA+DHA. Oil does not dissolve in water, so this amount would have to appear clearly when mixed — either as a visible oil layer on the surface, or as a milky white emulsion if it were microencapsulated. However, neither was observed. The Rasayanam capsule produced only brown, muddy water with heavy sediment, which is exactly how plain algae biomass with very low omega-3 oil content behaves. ## Comparison with a real EPA/DHA oil powder (other brand) For comparison, I tested a capsule from a truly microencapsulated EPA/DHA-rich omega-3 product (photos attached): * Powder is white-golden and fine * Forms a milky white emulsion in water * Leaves minimal sediment This is exactly how microencapsulated omega-3 oil with a high oil percentage behaves. The difference is very clear in the photos. ## Company response raises further doubts I contacted Rasayanam with these findings. They could not provide a lab report for my batch (ALGC25091). Instead, they sent a 6-month-old lab report from a different batch, which cannot be used to verify the potency of the batch I purchased. For supplements with declared active ingredients, each batch must have its own lab test report. This is a mandatory requirement under FSSAI and GMP, which Rasayanam claims to follow. However, Rasayanam was unable to provide a batch-specific lab report for ALGC25091. ## Possible reasons for using raw algae biomass instead of microencapsulated oil Without assuming the actual motivation, it is worth noting that highly concentrated EPA/DHA algal oil powders are significantly more expensive than raw algae biomass. Producing them requires specialized extraction, concentration, and microencapsulation processes, as well as substantially more source material to reach high EPA/DHA dosages. By contrast, algae biomass is much cheaper to produce, but it cannot naturally deliver the high EPA/DHA levels stated on the label as explained above. ## Likely actual potency Based on appearance, test behaviour, and known algae composition, Rasayanama Omega-3 capsules most likely contain: * EPA: 0–10 mg (vs. 225 mg claimed) * DHA: 5–25 mg (vs. 75 mg claimed) * Total omega-3: 5–35 mg (vs. 300 mg claimed) This suggests the product likely contains over 90% less EPA/DHA than advertised. ## Conclusion Based on the observations and comparisons above, the product I received appears to contain over 90% less EPA/DHA than advertised. For this reason, I cannot recommend this product to anyone seeking meaningful EPA/DHA supplementation. If you purchased a different batch, you can easily test it yourself: 1. Open a capsule. 2. Mix the powder in warm water. 3. Observe the result: - Milky white → high omega-3 oil content - Muddy brown with sediment → biomass, very low omega-3 oil content I hope this review helps other customers make an informed choice.

Smells and tastes like the Sea, but no 'fishy' burps so far.
Unlike most algae-based omega 3 capsules you will find abroad (Sapling, Sports Nutrition), this product DOES smell like the sea. And by that I don't mean fishy, but definitely like strong seaweed or marine algae. After consuming it for a week after switching from a more premium US-based product, I have not had 'fishy' burps, but the smell/taste of the capsule is like strong seaweed and takes getting used to. So if you're not into this taste/smell, you may not enjoy the experience of consuming this and I would recommend increasing your budget and going for something more premium. The brands abroad have managed to eradicate this taste/smell yet keep it vegan/algae-based.
