Fiio BTR17, first DAC owned.
Greatly improves sound and quality of music, using my Grado headphones. After some research on DAC's this came out on top and didn't disappoint. Battery life is very good and connection via Bluetooth or via the cable provided is seamless. I recommend spending some time going through the sound settings on the device and app for preferred choice of output. Downside, app on my phone is slow but this certainly is not a deal breaker.

Amazing Device - You Need One
Amazing headphone DAC, the sound it produces beats that of far more expensive alternatives. When plugged in it goes into desktop mode and sounds even better. If you’ve never heard top resolution music through a fantastic DAC such as this, and a top music quality streaming service like Quboz, you haven’t lived! The soundstage it creates, the 3D positioning of the instruments, the separation, it all combines to make an exceptional audio experience. An extremely easy two thumbs up, if you love music you should own one of these.

fiio btr17 awesome
absolutely loved it the sound and the volume level was like no other so loud , if i was just listening to this at home and had a charger near by it would be awesome but i purchased it for a phone amp & i like the volume very high with the help of the awesome gain options this has so unfortunately the battery would die after 3 hrs but this is cause i had it on equalizer custom mode if i didnt have it on that then it easy lasts 8 hrs and over . and it was a bit big & heavey tbh in my pocket plus 1 bizare thing about this device is it dont give you the option to have it totally rely on the phone battery it only allows you to use the internal battery of this device if its on phone mode , so once the device battery has drained theres no option to keep it going by charging it from you phone battery why still listening to it which is crazy that was a deal breaker for me , but if that feature had of been added id of gave it a 5 star but thats just if u listen to it on phone mode u can still charge it in phone mode but you cant listen to music why it charges , but apart from that it was a awesome device im stilll wondering if i should of kept it now lol

Great product.
Superb product . Fantastic sound at a reasonable price. The only very slight down side is that the screen glass could be a little more robust.

Mediocre sq and battery is poor
Firstly. I have many fiio products, from headphones to daps. In fact I owned the original X1, X3 and X5... I am a fiio fan. However the BTR17 does not have great sound quality. It is somewhat detailed, but it's quite dry sounding with little warmth or realism to the sound. Yes, all the nuances are there, but they are way too clinical, especially when compared to brands like ifi or astell and kern. I find the sound to be way to focused on the technicalities of the sounds and not the musicality. This leaves me feeling detached from the music and instead focusing on specific sounds within the mix. Bear in mind, I love my Shure headphones (aonic 5) as they allow total immersion in the totality and building blocks of the music (when used with ifi or astell and kern daps) providing a true sense of the musics character without losing the heart of the music. The fiio does not provide this as the music seems to lose it's beauty... None of the filters help and all sound like sharp cut offs. Add to this the very poor battery life. Low gain at volume 40 (out of 60) no EQ setting will provide about 4-5 hrs of continuous playback depending on genre of music. I use the 4.4mm balanced output for ally head and ear phones and I play via ldac. I cannot recommend this player as I don't find myself even remotely wanting to use it. I will give 2 stars though as it can function as an analytical tool and the build quality is very good.

Does not transmit bluetooth
Very misleading product description. This DOES NOT transmit bluetooth, so is useless with wireless earbuds.

Convenience and quality
The main problem with USB DACs is the connection cable between the phone and the DAC. It gets in the way and loses the connection too easily when the phone/DAC is moved. They’re just not very portable, despite being pretty small. This BT DAC breaks the wired connection between the DAC and the phone/computer. That makes picking up the phone to change tracks (etc) totally simple. The sound quality is very high. With an LDAC connection to my Android phone, and using Etymotic ER2XR IEMs I couldn’t hear any real difference between using this with a Bluetooth or a wired connection. And this DAC does support wired connections, so it gives the best of both worlds. Its output is fine even for harder to drive headphones. The PEQ is a big bonus - especially if streaming from a service that doesn’t offer much in the way of audio tweaks. Really happy with this. In answer to a review above: this has a Bluetooth receiver. It does not transmit to Bluetooth devices, which is why it has headphone connections.
