The "F" in this model does indeed stand for "F-Spaced'.

What's the difference on what direction the bar is facing ?

You can position this pickup with the bar facing either way. There is a slight difference in the tone when the pickup is reversed, you should try both ways to see which tone you like best. John Petrucci usually has this installed with the bar towards the neck on his guitars.

Would this be a good match for a maple neck Squier? something fat and less bright

I put it in my Ibanez RG along with the Liqifire and they sound awesome. Crunch Lab is definitely not bright through my Ibanez. Also has good clarity. Would definitely be a good upgrade from stock pickups in my opinion.
