Finally… REAL RV Rooftop 12V Air Conditioning Without a Generator!
We bought this 12V rooftop air conditioner after the complete failure of our engine-mounted A/C and heating system in our 1973 Winnebago. We use the RV to tow our race cars to events, and let me tell you—driving through summer heat with no A/C is brutal. We were searching for something that could replace both the heat and cooling system, ideally without needing to run a loud, fuel-hungry generator while driving. That’s when we found this 12V rooftop unit—and it checked every box.Why we chose this unit:No generator required – Runs on 12V, perfect for driving without firing up a generator.Copper coilsBrushless motorsIncredibly efficientLow profile – Sits much lower than the old-school rooftop A/Cs. Important for our retro Winnebago. Our roof had been repaired years ago, and the original vent had been sealed up, so we weren’t sure what we’d be getting into. But this unit fits standard roof vent dimensions—and it worked out great. The install instructions were clear, and they even have install videos online that helped a lot.We filmed our install for our YouTube channel, and even with the added time for filming, it only took about 3 hours to install. The unit sandwiches the roof with the inside and outside sections—very DIY-friendly. It comes fully charged with refrigerant, so no HVAC pro needed. We reused the original wiring route from the roof vent fan and connected power through that. I don't say this lightly: it could not have been easier.Performance so far? Excellent. It has a Turbo mode to cool things down fast, then shifts to a lower current draw to maintain comfort. We saw vent temps in the upper 50s to low 60s—this was while driving with just a single battery and no alternator charging it.According to the specs, a 600Ah battery should give you 10–12 hours of cooling, which is huge for us when we’re boondocking without shore power or a generator. Our real-world test is coming soon at a race in mid-August up in Michigan. That’ll be the big trial—and we’ll update this review after that. For now? Couldn’t be happier.

This is awesome. Supper quiet, easy install, it does use less power and is nice and cold. The wiring harness is supper long. No issues and is well boxed.

Sleek Design
Great product, it works as expected. Easy to install and has a sleek design. This unit replaced an older Coleman Mach 3 unit which was roughly 80 pounds. The lighter weigh of the Summit 2 unit (roughly 45 pounds) made it much easier to complete a solo install. The unit is also much quieter than the Coleman Mach 3 making it much more pleasant to use while sleeping. The installation was straight forward and un-complicated. The instructions are printed in large font with detailed illustrations. I had the unit on the roof and running with no help in just under 2 hours. I had a few questions regarding the install and customer service responded within a day.I have a 302ah lifepo4 system charging off of 200w of solar. The Summit 2 on Eco mode draws around 16amps so this easily lets me run the unit throughout the night and charge back up during the day. The variable speed compressor is an absolute game changer for anyone looking to conserve as much battery as they can. I tested the unit in the 92 degree PNW heat and it cooled my van down to 76 degrees in under an hour. The combined value and quality of the unit is definitely a win for anyone looking to keep their off-grid rig cool on a budget.

Impressive Off-Grid Air Conditioner — Efficient, Lightweight, and Great Support
Customer Service:I was very impressed with the customer service. I received helpful, detailed responses to my questions in under 24 hours. The team was knowledgeable about the product and clearly familiar with RV installations.Ease of Installation:Installation was relatively straightforward. The manual includes three different mounting options, two of which don’t require drilling through the roof for the power cable — a big plus. The unit is designed to fit standard rooftop openings, including both 14x14 inches and 14x9 inches, making it compatible with most RV setups. While the unit was originally built for truck cabs, it's well-adapted for RV use. It’s also much lighter than traditional rooftop ACs, which made it easier to lift and install.Power Efficiency:This air conditioner is highly efficient and well-suited for off-grid setups. It draws about 200–300 watts in eco or idle mode — significantly lower than most rooftop units. Power consumption varies depending on climate and use, but with our 560Ah lithium battery bank, it runs reliably without straining our system.Price Point and Features:Given the performance, efficiency, and overall build quality, the price is very competitive compared to other RV air conditioners. The interior components feel solid and well-designed. It's also available in both 12V and 24V versions, which is extremely helpful for matching different battery setups.Overall:Whether you're camping off-grid or staying at powered sites, this unit delivers excellent performance with minimal power use. Highly recommended for RVers looking for a lightweight, efficient, and affordable rooftop air conditioner
