Okay considering the price.
I installed this on my '98 Valkyrie Standard. The sissy bar has to come off for the trunk to open, which should be a no brainer considering the thing comes with a back rest, but I threw it out there for anyone who might miss that point. The instructions were barely worth reading. They sent enough hardware that I could cobble together a mounting system. But the metal brackets they sent are very thin and bend very easily. So now that I have it figured out, I'm heading to Home Depot soon to get some decent metal brackets to replace them with. Okay, this is a plastic box made in China. (I've seen worse stuff come out of China.) Don't be expecting it to be the same as one of those "Oh my God" priced trunks. The lock is almost laughable. But it locks. And when it's all said and done, it locks about as securely as the locks on my Leatherlyke bags. Which is not very secure. Most locks on Motorcycle bags that I've seen were barely worth locking, so in that regard, this lock is about average. The chrome luggage rack that goes on top has some ugly and crude looking welds. But they seem strong. And you won't see them unless your nose is in the rack. So I didn't care about that. The backrest is kind of thin, as in not a whole lot of padding. The cover for the backrest is that very thin vinyl stuff. Don't poke it with anything. Once the backrest is on the box, don't be handling it by the pad. It screws in via some small screws into the upper edge of the wooden frame of the backrest. Break those screws out and you're going to have to figure out how to remount the backrest. Bottom line, this is a cheap Chinese plastic box. Because it is priced fairly in relation to the quality, I gave it 5 stars. It does work. Just don't abuse it.

Very happy with my purchase
Ok first off I would like to say that like most other reviews given about this product the hardware is completely useless and ZERO instructions are included. With that being said...if you have a little imagination and some skills with tools (or paint if you're going to want to make it match better like I did) then you can't beat this tour box for the $$$! It's definitely not Harley quality but it's also NOT Harley priced! If you're willing to put some time into it and make it "your own" then I think you'll be happy with the end result. It comes a gloss black and not the best finish but could be used as is if gloss black is what you're looking for. I have leather saddle bags and wanted to try and match them as close as possible so I went with a matte black paint with a slight texture and I think it came out great! I added some Harley decals and some studs just to dress it up some but would've been fine with just the matte black paint. It does come with a logo on the top that I didn't like so I removed it. But that left an indent in the box so I filled it and placed a Harley decal over it to hide it.Be careful attatching the backrest to the box as to not strip out the plastic. (It won't take much so go slow) As another review stated...there are 3 small holes on the top part of the padded section near the staples. One in the center and two on either side. I also recommend starting with the middle hole and then the 2 remaining side top ones. Then you'll need 4 more self tapping screws to attach the rest of the pad. (For some reason they only give you 3 self tappers.I mounted mine on the stock luggage rack for a 03 Road King 100th Anniversary Addition. I went to Tractor Supply and bought a 1/2" rubber mat and cut it to fit into the luggage rack. Doubled it up and that gave me a flat surface which also happens to be a cushion between the metal rack and the box so as to stop any rattles and squeaks. It's ridged enough but still absorbs any bumps nicely. Also bought some brackets and steel for the inside and underneath sections for mounting. Stainless Steel hardware I recommend. Had to drill out new holes in the box but that's no big deal. Remember measure twice and cut or drill once!In conclusion, I would recommend this box/backrest to anyone who wants a nice looking inexpensive alternative to the high priced brand name ones out there. Feels pretty sturdy and I feel confident that I will get many years out of it.Good luck and ride safe!

Installation tips and Overall a good product for the money! Installed on my 09 Streetglide
First off... no directions come with this. Thinking its because it is "universal" so there are several ways to install.I have a 09 Harley Streetglide so my reviews will mostly revolve around the Harley stuffSize:These are slightly smaller in length (front to back) than a harley king pac. If you are using a Harley 2 up tour pac bracket this box is going to be slightly smaller. So locate the 2 up bracket slightly in from the end of the box or the bracket will protrude. No big deal setting it back, my wifes 5' and this works great for her. Fits and rides well, she loves it. Taller riders will fit well too. Size is not an issue on the street glide, blends well overall.Luggage Rack:Cheap chrome. Didn't use, looks like something you would see on a bicycle. Lid does NOT come pre drilled thank god. If the lid was a bit stronger I may have installed. This is the main reason I didn't install.Weather Stripping:Kinda loose and will come unattached in a corner hindering a solid seal when closing. I put a few dabs of silicone at each corner and a couple spots to hold in place. This worked great and it stays in place now.Hardware:Lock is cheap but effective and pre installed. 2 keys, a boat load of bolts and brackets of which I have no clue how to use. This comes with a subframe loose. I didn't use it with my application. Again, directions would be nice but if you have some mechanical ability you should do just fine.Paint Finish:Vivid Black. Looks good no complaints. Bottom is not painted. No wax cause its new, so make sure you wax it before you end up scratching it up.Seat Back:Cheap Vinyl, stapled to the seat frame. I ended up siliconing over the tops of the staples to add longevity. This seat back will need to be installed onto the box. Padding is nice, looks fine for a cheaper seat back. Really comfortable though.and the best for last....Installation:When you get the box there are tons of parts with no directions. This is what I did.Bracket I attached this box too... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G7O8924/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_3Once unpacking I placed a 10lb weight into the box, it kept tipping over so this helped hold it steady while I worked on it.1. Instal seat back onto tour pac:If you look under the vinyl seat back where the staples are you will see a small hole on each end and in the center. Using the small self drillers that come with the pac attach to the pac. There are holes already in the pac that will guide you to line up. INSTAL THE CENTER TOP FIRST! Once all three of those are in, Insert additional screws on the back face into the back rest. In all you should have 7 screws holding that seat back on. Don't worry about length or the screw being felt by the passenger. The padding is thick enough.2. Attaching to 2 up bracket mentioned above:I didn't drill out the chrome bracket. Instead I drilled the bottom of the tour pac. No way I was going to disturb the bracket. I eventually will get a OEM Harley tour pac. With bracket laying atop the tour pac I centered and placed slightly in from flush with the back of the box. Mark holes with a sharpie. Using a 5/16" drill bit drill the bottom of the box so your holes line up. I drilled two first and inserted the bolts tight, then drilled the rest to make sure they lined up. The holes I didn't insert bolts into were siliconed over to keep moisture out. There are bolts with nuts and washers that come with the kit which I used to attach. Also there is a plate which barely fits the layout. This plate spans two bolts which holds down the box onto your bracket. Place that plate on the inside (1 on the right and 1 on the left) and bolt down tight. (The box sits directly onto the bracket) I was torn if i should put rubber grommets down to absorb vibration. Not sure if this was good or not, will have to let you know. The bracket is made specifically for a Harley OEM box. Its plenty wide to support this box, however it does dip down about a 1/4" towards the sides of the box. Only because a Harley pac rests into. Don't look too bad, just thought I would mention it. I can tell, I doubt it jumps out to anyone else as looking unintended.Took the wife for a long ride once installed. She loves it. Very comfortable and worth under $100 bux. Much more $$$ Id probably bought something in the $200 range. Not a lot of vibration or rattle when riding. Seems fairly secure. OH... and I used BLUE Locktite on the bolts! In closing... my bike is Black Pearl... kinda grayish color. The black looks just fine in combination.Good luck, Ride safe! Hopefully this review helps you make a decision when your purchasing a tour pac. All in all for the money its a good deal. Much more in cost probably not.Figure a couple hours for installation.
