Sky Blue [2003] [DVD]

As alot of the other reviews say the animation in sky blue is flawless,the detail is breathtaking(see the bikes in the mist scenes).I Also think the plot and storyline although slow burning at times held me captivated throughout,it is not as complex as somthing like "akira" but it is deeper and more powerfull than "Appleseed"(both films of which im a big fan).The soundtrack was both powerfull and moving,using many stles of music throughout.(want to find it on cd)I have watched this anime several times in the last few months and i enjoy it more and more each time as i notice more detail in the animation and the storyline.Its a film that i have been proud to share with friends that arent anime fans...all have enjoyed and some have even bought it for themselves!I have yet to find another Anime that mathes this in both its animation and story!A must see for all anime fans new or old!

This isn't a review but I will delete/edit once I have watched the dvd. I am having problems trying to turn on the subtitles! I know this sounds stupid but I have a number of other japanese anime dvds and they are usually in the options/settings but all this dvd has is "play movie" "scene selection" and "special features" and all you can do in the special features is change the surround sound set up.I've tried turning them on using my xbox 360 controller and in another dvd player using the subtitles button but still nothing!It says that the dvd is japanese with english subs on the back!Any help would be great!

SKY BLUE is the first UMD movie I've bought, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It's a Korean movie, a beautiful (if initially peculiar) mixture of futuristic CGI imagery and traditional animation.The story focuses on social imbalance, with the safe and idyllic lifestyle of the HAVES being facilitated by the hazardous work of the HAVE NOTS. Into this mix throw a heroic revolutionary figure trying to level the playing field, his beautiful lost love, her ambiguous boyfriend, and an evil grafter trying to maintain the status quo, and you've got a good tale for the telling. The pace is fast, the characters well formed, and it's gorgeous to look at. I'd heartily recommend it!From a technical point of view, the movie looks terrific on the PDP screen, it's a vibrant and crystal clear transfer to UMD. Special features are lacking, but as a newcomber to UMD movies I'm not sure if they're typical in most offerings so I've not let that affect my rating.FOUR STARS!

One of the best futuristic movies I've ever seen. Nicely mixed 2D and 3D, beautiful landscapes and sadly looking future of the earth. Definitely worth of buying, seeing and keeping it. First version I've seen was original korean version with english subtitles under different name which I cannot recall now. I'm watching it very often and will do it again and again. It's briliant and one of it's kind. Strongly recommended.

Hello. Movie which I adore. The assembly is a little different from the French version, as well as certain musics, outdone to the festival of animation of Gérardmer in 2004. Blu-ray quality embellishes with images and sound in the meeting.That is only happiness, I tell you! Thanks

Yes the animation is better than the cliched plot, but you could say Star Wars had a cliched plot and not hear any fans disagree. The fusion of 2D and 3D effects is very very good and similar to Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig or 'Innocence'. The DTS sound is spot on and all in all I found this a very entertaining film.

Love the art style and a good storyline. Would recommend this to anyone and would ask anyone who doesn't watch the animated style, to give it a try.

Was habe ich mich gefreut "Wonderful Days" unter dem Titel "Sky Blue" auf Blu Ray zu entdecken. Ein toller Film mit spannender Handlung und einem fantastischen Score. Auf den Inhalt will ich nicht weiter eingehen. Wer dieses Genre mag wird genügend Quellen finden, die den Inhalt des Films ausführlich beschreiben.Ich bin Besitzer der DVD 4-Disc Edition und hatte mich entsprechend über ein Blu Ray Update gefreut. Was für eine Enttäuschung, als ich diese dann angeschaut habe.Das Bild ist eine deutliche Verbesserung gegenüber der DVD. Was einem das Sehvergnügen aber total nimmt ist der Ton. Dieser ist an vielen Stellen asynchron. Oftmals stümperhaft zusammengeschnitten: Dialoge enden abrupt, Textzeilen in Songs fehlen, Stille, da wo Ton sein müsste, abrupte Lautstärkesprünge.Es tut mir leid, das macht diese Blu Ray unguckbar. Ich werde sie zurücksenden.2 Sterne gibt es nur, weil der Film als solcher wirklich wirklich toll ist.

First off, this movie is absolutely gorgeous. I was an Animation major in art school, and when this was being made it was all anybody talked about. Visually it does not disappoint. And the story is a pretty good commentary on the environment and the separation between working and wealthy classes around the world. Also, this is the first time it's been in a format you can view it in on standard United States AV equipment.That said, the English translation is... a bit creative. Two minutes of footage have been cut and dialog has been changed so that the story has a couple significant differences and some mysteries are more or less completely obvious, thereby making the reveal at the end completely pointless.This is a passable product, but anyone who's wanted to see this for a while should consider getting a region-free DVD player and importing the original DVD with english subtitles.
