Penguin Minis: John Green Box Set

Mini-Books are PHENOMENAL
This review is not about the book titles (they are very well loved, and I enjoy reading them). This review is about the book formatting. The Mini-Books are PHENOMENAL.I read an article about the Swedish fad of mini-books, and how Penguin, (via Dutton), was giving this mini-book a try via a foursome of John Green books.Brilliant. These mini-books are more than just an adorable version. These are easy to hold, easy to read, and the formatting is really fantastic. The upward page flip is easy and intuitive, while still leaving the print font at a regular book size, the super thin pages are comfortable on the eye, and don't have word bleed through. These are easy to slip in a bag, or even a pocket. I am hoping, praying, that more books get this mini-versioned treatment. Or even new books. I would happily repurchase my well read favorites, or even pick up new ones, if they were printed in this very handy format. Love them!

Mini books are fantastic!
These fit so well in my hands and are a real delight to read!I first heard about mini books (or dwarsliggers) from an article in the NYTimes and was fascinated with the idea. Since I already love John Green's books but didn't happen to own any of the 4 in this set I thought they'd be a good buy.Totally worth it. The book itself is easier to hold, especially if you have arthritis and/or smaller hands although getting used to the thinner pages took me a bit. Once I got the hang of that though, I found reading with these books a real pleasure.

Great for on the go reading
I used to work in a very boring department of a store. These were great to carry around in my back pocket so I could bring them everywhere with me. I'd pull it out and start reading whenever and they were easy to hide when a customer would come up. It took some time to get used to reading with the new format. The pages are thin but it's nothing to worry about I you aren't hard on your books. Overall a great concept that I wish more books would use.

Love the dwarsligger format!
I'm neither here nor there on John Green's books to be honest, but I love love love the dwarsligger format and hope it catches on in English publishing! Small light books with bible-paper thin pages are as easy to carry around as an eReader. I particularly want them to catch on in airports... picking up a dwarsligger instead of a conventional paperback or hardbound book to read during a flight and maybe even just chuck in the recycling when I'm done feels way less wasteful than collecting big, heavy tomes I'm unlikely to reread and will just collect dust at home and weigh down move after move.

Penguin minis
I love the new book format. It's easy to hold and easy to carry - purse, pocket, tote bag, etc. The font is the same as larger books. The paper is thinner, but stronger than regular book paper, with no see through in spite of the thinness. I will be buying more of this style of book (Penguin minis, AKA dwarsliggers in the Netherlands). I see that Penguin Publishing now has more books available and hope that they continue to do so.

Cute Mini Books
These are so cute! Only complaint is that some pages aren't evenly printed. Keep in mind the pages are thin (so it all fits in a tiny pocket sized novel) but if you're careful there should be no problems

Great collection. Easy read & portability.
I ordered these because I wanted something ultra-portable to stash in a small bag or coat pocket. These couldn’t be more perfect. The stories are all great- so much better than the movie versions, but then when isn’t a book better than the movie?

I love the book style!
First, I just read the 1st book, Looking for Alaska. Excellent. Too my surprise though, I really liked the small book style. It is very easy to carry around and read on the go. I think I like this better than my Kindle.

6/10
I enjoy this set to bring with me when I travel. However, I wish that you could read the book normally instead of the way the pages are set up. It’s hard to get comfortable and also leaves creases in the books.

Please publish more Penguin Minis!
Disclaimer: this is more a review for the format than the novels in themselves (which were also great!).Some years ago a few book titles in this format (which comes from The Netherlands and is there called dwarsligger) were published in my mother tongue Italian and I instantly loved them: they're extremely practical to travel with if you don't like a Kindle. I would say they're about 1/4 the size and weight of a regular paperback, but still very clear to read. Another important point is that if you like me love to read when you're eating by yourself you can do that as this kind of book stays open by itself when lying flat, thus leaving both of your hands free... Unfortunately after a while the Italian publisher stopped doing them, so now I am extremely happy that Penguin is having a few titles in this size and I hope more are to come.
