Thicker legs might have some issues.
I've had knee problems for the past few years, so I own my fair share of knee braces. However, I recently twisted one of my knees badly and began looking for a brace with more support for my ligaments. Because of my knee issues I've gained some weight so I opted to purchase both the XL and XXL sizes and return the one that didn't fit as well. Neither ended up fitting very well.Pros:-Compression: helped with swelling issues-When I secured the criss-cross straps my ligaments did feel extra relief, compared to a brace without straps like theseCons:-XXL was too big: Fit around my thigh/calf (perhaps a little big, but manageable), too loose around my knee-XL was too small: Tight around thigh/calf, even a little right around the knee-Both sizes: neither size allowed my kneecap to stay within the circle, when the criss-cross straps were secured it pulled the fabric forward leaving no support around my kneecap-Uncomfortable to walk/stand in because of reason aboveI really wanted to keep this brace. It was comfortable when I was laying down (because of the compression). However trying to walk around/stand for more that a few minutes was uncomfortable due to the brace pooching out around my kneecap.I'd recommend at least trying this out, because you can always send it back if it doesn't work out. To me, the general functions of this brace seemed to be there: compression, support, added ligament support. The only reason I returned this item was because the fit seemed to take away some of the support I was looking for. I suspect smaller sizes would have an easier time fitting comfortably.

Looks good but ...
If you are looking for a knee brace that wraps around your knee, this isn't it. Unless it says its a wrap around it's what's called a selve. It's one piece you slideover your foot and up your leg. My leg and knee was swollen from pulling two ligaments. Couldn't get it on right and when I finally did it always pulled my pants up with it. Wear it under pants or skirt. I even ordered the extra large. Have ordered another knee brace that does wrap around but it's taking weeks to even ship. Must be the Xmas holidays. Sigh. Expect 12/9 to 12/14 now.

Works wonders, hate their sizing!
I have lingering damage to my knee. Had surgery to remove a lot of shredded cartilage from femur and patella, had torn MCL and LCL, also injured patella tendon. I still have pain and swelling from time to time. Over the past week it was really bad, had limited mobility, difficulty walking. I couldn't find my old brace (also McDavid) so I ordered this. It works wonders. After a day at work in retail while wearing this, I still have some pain and swelling but for the most part it is gone. That said, this brace is harder to get on and off than one with the external hinge (my other one). There are no loops on the sides on the top to help pull this up. (WHY?! All knee braces should have those!) It fits really snug, almost too snug to adjust it when it's on. It also rubbed my leg on the side of my knee and now I have a blister. According to the company, who I called about sizing, I picked the right size. I think I should have gone up a size.I'm not wearing this while playing sports. I need it for day to day life and for working my retail job where I walk for what seems like miles during an 8 hour shift. Overall, I like it. It brought relief fast, but it might be a little too snug and it's hard to get on and even harder to get off.

Great reviews online, yet disappointed by product
This knee brace was my hope of getting some comfort, at least after reading all the great reviews. The chart size is clearly a big problem, some say it runs small others say it runs too big. I measured my knee straight and bent and both measurements fell within the 17"-20" so I thought to get the XL which is supposed to be actual size based on the chart. I can barely get through 10mins of a workout before the knee brace moves itself to my ankle. I have played around with different ways of strapping it tightly, but once I start to sweat (which is inevitable) the knee brace begins to move down. I wasted $35 of my money. I must say the product looks very sturdy, better than what you would get in most stores but there is clearly something wrong with this products size

It fits! Good for small people
I have ordered over 5 types of knee braces looking for one that would fit my small legs to no avail. They were always to loose and did not tighten enough to accommodate my small legs until I found this brace. I ordered the size "small" and it fits me just great. I can't tell you how happy I am to have found a brace that actually fits and this one seems to work pretty well. The thing is, I can't really compare the performance to other brands or braces because for some reason, other brands don't seem to want to make braces for smaller, petite people. I can say though I am an adult figure skater and I bought this brace to skate in and it does not restrict my mobility at all (which was a surprise since figure skating is sport that really relies on knee bending and extension). The only negative is that my knee feels like it's in a hot pizza oven by the time I am done skating because of all the heat retention. Yes, my knee is baking in this thing by the end of my skate, but I do think it has helped me from injuring my knee more. Overall, the best brace I have ordered simply because it fits and does protect my knee.

So so
I've had 2 knee surgeries and needed both medial and lateral support. The brace does run small. Also, not comfortable and my knee felt worse after running. The Velcro got stuck to the inside of my pants. Overall, quality and build seem good. Just not right for me

Waaay to small for the rated size
Let's start by saying I love McDAVID braces. I have been wearing a 421 (no knee cross straps) for years in XXL rated for the same size knee as this 425. My knee is 18.5": dia and my calf is 20" and I have never had problems with the 421. I just decided to check out the 425 for extra support. Got the XXL and the package and product tags matched. I could not even get it halfway up my calf. Had to have help pulling it off. What a disappointment. Back to the 421...

Excellent knee support
I have had one of these supports for about a year now and I think it's great. I have arthritis and was about to do a sponsored walk when my knee decided to play up, it wouldn't support my weight. I could walk perfectly normally with the brace on and had no pain.I recently bought another one from this Amazon seller and found that they sent me an older design one, which wasn't as comfortable. The one I already have was 2008 on the packaging but the one I got from here was 1998. The design has obviously changed and I agree with the comments from the other reviewer about it not being comfortable. I am however returning it to get another one from the seller I got the first one from.Although the 2008 design does still wrinkle around the knee a bit it's a lot better than the 1998 design. Something to watch out for.
