Q: When I opened my bottle there was a funky smell, similar to that of spoiled cooking oil. Is that pretty normal?

Lutein capsules do have a light odor distinct from that of fish oil capsules. I do not know if this is due to the Lutein or the accompanying Zeaxanthin, or from the composition of the gel cap, itself.
