Beautiful book. Very inspiring - and even though it was written decades ago, it still feels incredibly fresh. Really powerful take on what makes us ill - and it really inspires you to try to get "inside" your own body and be aware of what's going on. Some really helpful poses at the back of the book.

The Body needs time too
I first came across this book when it was recently published: I was in my early 20's. My life had been muddled, so was my posture. I took the 'anti-exercises' described seriously and performed them, my posture changed permanently.Life took it's own turns, I lost my copy of the book and have been without it for over 10 years. A short time ago, talking with a friend, I realised that with a recent bereavement, he and his wife might find the story told and the advice given in the book very useful. I gave them a copy for their wedding anniversary and bought myself one as well.There is a simple authenticity about the personal - deeply painful and moving - story told at the beginning of the book. Mme Bertherat's reasons for taking up the study of the Alexander Technique and her recovery from the deepest grief give a great support to the simple but effective exercises described in the book. I recommend this to anyone who feels remote from an emotional experience in their past, or for whom the same is overwhelming. Anyone who is stiff or tired from a workplace not built for humans, or anyone who simply wants to try something at home that will help their balance.It is not a 'brilliant' book, but it has emotional depth and some useful ideas. I hope more people buy it and try out the regimes described.
