The Marathon Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz is a highly accurate watch built to strict military specifications under MIL-PRF-46374G. Designed for pilots, parachutists, and law enforcement, the Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz is made to withstand the many challenges that are faced in a professional or everyday environment. First developed by Marathon Watch Company in 1986, the Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz was made as a request by the Kelly Air Force Base. They wanted a watch which could be used at high altitude, withstand extreme changes in pressure and altitude, as well as be an easy to read timepiece for a pilot. Marathon fulfilled this with the Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz. The Military Navigator Pilot’s Quartz is made from a specialized fibershell case that is sweat and shock resistant, as well as lightweight. Included with the Military Navigator Pilots Quartz is a 20 millimetre nylon strap made under MIL-S-46383B, Type III. The Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz now uses a Sapphire Crystal. The Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz is made in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland to guarantee the highest level of quality and accuracy in manufacturing. Powered by a Swiss made, high torque, 3 jewel ETA FØ6 quartz movement, the Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz guarantees you a high degree of accuracy in timekeeping. The ETA FØ6 movement is accurate to -0.3/+0.5 seconds per day and also includes an End of Life (EOL) indicator that will advance the seconds hand once every 4 seconds to inform you that a battery change is needed. Replacement battery is a 371 cell. Review: Very tough watch - I have owned a Navigator for quite some time now, and it’s subjected to a lot of tough environments as part of use. I’ve not seen any deterioration during this time. Reports of fragility and bezel loss in first 2-4 weeks don’t match my experience at all. In fact, I got curious and tried to abuse the bezel to see if it would separate and it did not. I have to conclude that anyone who has really experienced this has probably subjected the Navigator to treatment that would damage many watches. Before you buy this watch, it’s probably important for you to decide whether you accept the DOD design parameters, which were essentially for a rugged yet ultimately disposable watch. The Navigator is not designed to be repaired but rather replaced. This is explicit in the DOD specifications. Hence the plastic case, etc. This is not unique to Marathon either — all watches produced under DOD contracts follow this same approach. If you talk with military guys, particularly infantry and armor guys, they all see equipment such as watches through this lens. It’s a consumable piece of equipment. This is at odds with how most civilian buyers think about a watch. In summary, if you knock a Marathon too hard against the side of an Abrams turret, it’s going to lose. But if you’re going to use it normally, even in rock climbing, skydiving, and other extreme sports, you’ll be fine. It’s a great watch.

I have owned a Navigator for quite some time now, and it’s subjected to a lot of tough environments as part of use. I’ve not seen any deterioration during this time.
