Review: Twice in the last 20 years I made the mistake of buying an off brand of potting soil. Both times I was disappointed. The last time I bought an organic off brand, I ended up with a zillion gnats in my plants. I will never buy anything but Miracle-Gro again. Review: I didn't buy this for succulents, but I got it for making my own chunky mix for aroids. I was having the hardest time finding the right soil that wouldn't stay wet super long. I decided to try this one because it doesn't have sand and it's just a basic peat mix. And actually, it's basically just peat. If you have some amendments like worm castings and myco then you can just buy some peat for half the price and double the size. I have succulents too and I can tell you, they won't be happy in this soil straight. It would definitely need some extra stone or perlite.

This is basically peat moss, it wasnt exactly what I expected, but it works. It does stay a little more wet than I think succulents like but I added a little perilite and that worked perfect. Besides that, miracle grow is a big brand so you’re less likely to get lots of gnats or poor quality. Overall: -could use some perilite -stays a little more wet than I would prefer, deep water on day one, still wet an inch down 4 days later. Watering every 1-1.5 weeks. -have not gotten any gnats so far -decent price for what you get if you don’t want to make your own If you are new to houseplants this is perfect, I would just add a cup of perilite to the whole bag. But even if you don’t add it, as long as you’re waiting for it to be all the way dry before watering again, your succulents will do well in this soil.
