It is a digestive aid but the main purpose it was prescribed for me was to keep my cholesterol in check naturally. If taken after every meal it helps the liver process & eliminate fat. Fat build-up in the liver slows down digestion & causes the cholesterol build-up in the arteries. It took about 6 months after I started taking it for my cholesterol to drop from 245 to 199. I've been using A-F Betafood for at least 15 years now & my cholesterol runs from 171 to 191. A chiropractor/nutritionist prescribed this product for me & I'm forever grateful, keeping me off strong drugs that destroy the liver, the very organ we need to protect.

Yes, it is small pills. I've been taking this for years, along with Livaplex by SP - The AF Betafood is made from beets and is very helpful, especially to those of us whose gallbladders have been removed. AFB aids in digestion and, coupled with Livaplex, makes a big difference in one's ability to digest fats.
