普通のアメリカ人の女の子がヨーロッパのお姫様に変身する物語。彼女は人から注目されたくないと思って生きていたのに、一転して有名人に。 普通の女の子だって、こんなに行儀悪くないのでは？と個人的には思うなあ。グラスをたたいて壊してしまうシーンはアメリカに居た事ある人なら「あるかも」と思うところでは？日本語が途中で3回くらいでてきます。日本語のわかる私達にはくすっと笑えるところ。謝るシーンは特におかしい。 ミヤの品のない英語やアメリカの俗語に、おばあさまが目をむくシーンも面白い。 この映画で王妃様をやっているのが、あのサウンドオブミュージックの彼女だった事が驚きでした。元気な家庭教師だったのに、しっとりした女性になっている！！

サンフランシスコに住む高校生ミヤは、おっちょこちょいで、どじで、センスがない女の子です。ある日突然、お母さんからお父さんの母、つまりおばあさんがあなたに会いたがっている事を聞かされます。未婚の母の子供として育ってきたミヤは、初めて会うおばあさんから、お父さんは事故で突然亡くなった事を知らされ、そのお父さんはヨーロッパのとある国の王子で、王位継承のためミヤを迎えに来たと言うのです。 さあプリンセスになるためのトレーニングが始まりました。しかし、このニュースをマスコミが取り上げ、学校でも超有名人になってしまいます。普通の恋愛をしたいと思う心と、プリンセスになりたいと思う心がミヤを苦しめます。数々の苦難を乗り越えてミヤは.............. 字幕、吹き替えは付いていません。英検２級レベル相当の方、英語圏からの帰国子女の方、特におすすめです。

This movie is based upon the book series of the same name, but the similarities are so few, it can hardly be considered an adaptation. Where the book was witty, knowing, and hilarious, this movie has retained hardly any of these aspects and is instead unoriginal and uninspired. The movie survives mostly on star Anne Hathaway's charm, even as she goes through numerous sight gags that are way too obvious to be funny. And while the casting of regal Julie Andrews as a queen may seem like a match made in Disney heaven, she actually is the opposite of the way the queen is depicted in the book, who is described as a chain-smoking hag who has eyeliner permanently tatooed on her eyelids, and who has no qualms about telling her granddaughter that she looks like a prostitute. The weakest link of the movie is Garry Marshall, the director. He simply has no eye for what is now, and instead makes the movie a retread of all his previous films. (To nit-pick, even the choice of headphones and sunglasses that Anne Hathaway wears in the movie's poster looks like something that was bought way back in 1991.) The original novel is by no means a great work of fiction, but had it been faithfully adapted, it would have made for a much more interesting movie.

高校生のミアは内気でドジでさえない女の子。芸術家の母親と猫のルーイと一緒にサンフランシスコに住んでいる。両親はミアが赤ちゃんの時に離婚し、父親は事故で亡くなっている。そんなある日、一度も会ったことのない父方の祖母クラリスが、ヨーロッパからミアに会いに来た。祖母を訪ねたミアはクラリスから自分がジェノヴィアのプリンセスで、唯一の王位継承者であることを知らされる。・・・ 思いっきり変身して、素敵なドレスを着て、舞踏会で王子様に巡り会いたい、っていう女の子のシンデレラ願望が、この映画でみんな実現されています。おっそろしくダサい女の子だったミアが、スタイリストのおかげで美少女に変身する場面はびっくり！何をしてもドジばかり、話せる相手も親友のリリーとその兄マイケルだけだったミアが、外見だけでなく内面も成長していく様子がコミカルに描かれています。ジュリー・アンドリュースを始め、不安に戸惑うミアを見守ってくれる脇役の人たちも素敵で、観ていて本当にほのぼのする映画です。

This is certainly one of the most charming films I have seen in a while. It deals with the old fable of the girl who is told she is a princess and is going to be taken off into a magical land where she can be happy. The Princess Diaries takes this story and puts it into into a modern teenage context. Mia plays a dejected unpopular teenager who has no pride in herself or in her appearance, her friends are all a little bit off-the-wall and outspoken. She daydreams about the popular boy of the school dating her, etc, all the usual stuff that can be expected from somebody in her position. The film deals with the sudden and drastic changes that happen in her life, and how everyone around her reacts to what is happening. Her true friends think that she is selling out as her image is glamorised, people start wanting to be friends with her because of her position, and all the while Mia is still the same shy worrisome teenager beneath it all. The film carries a moral message - that its what's inside that counts, and that just because she was made a Princess it doesn't make her any more special than she was before. I think this film is hugely enjoyable, filled with moments that are really quite funny as well as moments that can be really quite touching. Wonderful stuff.

Love this sweet coming-of-age story wrapped in an urban teenager's discovery that she is the sole heir to the throne of a small kingdom. This movie deftly avoids all the tired tropes that have spun from that pitch. Instead, it delivers witty, realistic scenarios as Mia navigates high school angst we all went through of not fitting in as a young teen in general--then gets hit with a much bigger how-can-I-ever-fit-in scenario. Anne Hathaway as Mia was only 17 when this movie was filmed, and I can't imagine anyone playing this role but her. Ditto for Julie Andrews as her estranged royal relative. This is not only a must-watch movie but also an I'll-watch-it-again movie.

Anne Hathaway in the early 2000s was a vibe and I was there for it and still am! I had so much fun sharing this favorite movie of mine with my daughter. She now absolutely loves it and wants to be a princess just like Mia. Great family movie!
