Great solid pen for a great solid price.
I really like this pen.The body construction is quite nice, It feels very solid in hand, it’s weighted but not so heavy that it’s uncomfortable to use. It's supposed brass, and completely feels like it. The click mechanism feels smooth and solid and has a satisfying click when you use it. The sound that it makes is addicting sometimes, and will likely cause you to bother other people in the room as you keep on playing with it, definitely better than any fidget toy.If you like all solid pens, this a very nice step up from the new all metal construction of the Zebra F701, but the price is a bit more. The clip is great, solid and very use able, don't have to pry it open, and although it is clipped on the on, I don't think you're going to get it off without really trying.I bought the silver one, lost it, and immediately bought another one because I really liked this pen. Now I want one in black. The point is very smooth, thanks for Schmidt refill. Lines don't skip and it lays down a relatively bold line. It rights quote well for a ballpoint. I'm someone who likes to use extra fine gel points (0.5-0.38 G2s-pilots and energel) but I love using this just as much, and this is them choosing well to pair it with a great refill. I hear Uniball makes a gel refi that will fit the Fisher G2 style, Uniball Jetstream 600 or something but isn't readily available in the US, and is about 10$ a refill on Ebay. I hope they bring this here and make it cheaper because I'd be all over that.I do a lot of writing so I burn through a refill in under a week usually, and this happens to be for all sort of pens. If I had my choice and we had better types of paper I'd be using my fountain pens, but this feels just as good in hand and we'll to write with. The other good point is that ballpoint ink will wrote on any good surface. If feels just as solid as the pen is trying to emulate, their Rotring 600. The knurled grip feels comfortable in hand and satisfying to run your hand across when you are writing for long sessions. It is a bit skinny, but thats not necessarily a bad thing, I never did get tired writing with thus even for a long time, even when compared to smaller more plastic pens.My real complaint of the pen Is that when you unscrew it, it feels like there needs a but of grease on the threads, which I provided in the go of silicon grease, but otherwise than that I can't harbor any ill opinions.TLDRPro:-Solid constructionm, feels like will last-nice weight-great refill and good options, will fit G2 Fisher styles-pretty design and feels good in hand-fun to play with mechanism-heaftier and more solid than Zebra F701, and an upgrade-well pricedCons:-G2 Fisher refills doesn't have extra fine options for gel refills-hefty for those who like lighter pens-not a throw away pen, if you are prone to loosing things-threads feel a bit rough, needs a bit of grease-needs more than just black and silver colors.-more expensive than F701 so more annoying to looseRetro 51, makes so nice solid twist roller pens in their Tornado line (which I own 2 of as well, and will likely purchase more) and are known for their amazing and fun designs, and would love to see them make something nice for this series please, I'll definitely buy some more.

Great Pen. Retro 1951 really nailed it!
I love this pen. I'm a rollerball guy (love fountain pens, but I just prefer to EDC a nice clicky rollerball) and this one is great. It's hefty (but not heavy) and well balanced. Fits perfectly in my hand. I love the iconic Rotring 600-esque styling. I comes with a Schmidt EasyFlow 9000M cartridge (which I think are great refills) that writes nice, inky-dark lines. The clip is sturdy, straight, and very cool! It's stamped with "Retro 1951 / Hex-O-Matic" where the "O" is a hexagon. The silver/stainless finish is great looking and the knurling on the barrel is comfy and grippy.I've included a couple of photos in case anyone wants to see its size in context. It's about 3/8" taller than the Parker Jotter (which I also love) and about 1/4" taller than a Zebra F-301. It's about the same circumference as the Jotter at their widest. The knurled area is just a tiny bit thinner compared to the black grip of the Zebra.

I like it as much as my Rotring
I bought because the red plastic ring broke on my Rotring 600. Works awesome, feels good, balanced well, and comes with a nice Schmidt Easyflow 9000. Super happy with it, and will buy more.

Doesn't write - ink cuts out
I don't normally buy pricey pens, but used a colleague's Retro 51 hexomatic and liked it so much I decided to get my own. I've had it a few days now and despite all my best efforts, I can't get it to write regularly - the ink just cuts out. See photo - and this it when it's writing well. Really, really disappointed. What's the point of a $30 pen that doesn't write out of the box, when you can get a bic for about a nickel that does?

Great style, great writer, easily worth the money!
This pen is very stylish, durable, and writes very smoothly with the ink provided. I chose the silver-finished model for the sake of durability as opposed to the black lacquer because I love a good looking pen and would have been disappointed when the lacquer scratched or chipped. The knurled grip is excellent - knurled enough for good friction but not harsh enough to be irritating - and the hex-shaped body rests comfortably against the thumb web. The detail involved is very nice - the finish is smooth and silky, the "click" is firm and smooth, and the "51" etched on the end of the clicker/thruster/thrust tube/whatever-you-call-it adds a nice touch. The spring clip is nicely appointed with a strong grip and the words "RETRO 1951" engraved to one side of the clip and "HEX-O-MATIC" on the other, but as at least one other reviewer has noted, the spring clip itself came slightly misaligned and does not follow the exact direction to the front of the pen. It seems like an easy detail to correct and, while it's not a GLARING error it is fairly obvious. Deal breaker? Nope. Not even close. My only other knock is not against the pen, per se, but about the "fit" for me. I'm a pretty decent sized guy with largish hands, and the narrow barrel can be a little cramp-inducing after writing for a couple minutes. I would like to see a larger, thicker version of this pen, perhaps in raw brass, for those of us who are a little larger of stature.

Quite good.
I've really been enjoying this pen. The Schmidt ink refill it comes with is pretty great too. Swapped it out for a Parker gel refill, but found myself switching back due to how quickly the Parker ones go dry. Knurling is a bit smooth, unlike a Rotring which has really grippy and aggressive knurling. It is noticeably weighty, but not so much so that it becomes uncomfortable to write with. The tip is meant to be unscrewed to swap refills, but it slowly works itself loose over time. I would dab some blue Loctite on it and just unscrew the entire grip off when swapping refills.Overall, I would highly recommend it.
