The Riot Kayaks Escape 12 Angler sit-on-top is designed for fishing-minded kayakers and equipped with features for serious anglers. The great combination of stability and performance with an excellent load capacity will keep you well provisioned and properly organized. It's the perfect boat for all fishing environments. The Riot Kayak Escape 12 Angler is loaded with features, including a sit-on-top high back outfitting, adjustable sliding foot braces, pilot rudder system, anchor trolley system, front hatch with dual- density hatch cover, integrated console with a molded-in cup holder, 2 4-inch deck plates, 2 paddle hooks, 1 adjustable rod holder, 2 front and 2 rear flush mount rod holder, rear deck shock cord storage, 2 rubber handles, drain plug and scupper plugs. Made from glass-reinforced plastic, the pilot rudder is light and strong with a profiled blade. Of course we retained the low-windage openwork design, the vibration-dampening rubberized V-block and the oval pulleys that made our Pilot rudder system well known for its smoothness of action. The mounted rod holder rotates 360 degrees and adjusts vertically for precise placement. Standard rod holder has a rear saddle that accepts all types of rod and reel combinations. A large, smooth swivel locking ring prevents rod loss and the vertical swivel movement allows easy rod positioning.

Pro's and con's
Kayak is really stable. What I like about it is the rudder system, storage ports, the 360° rod holder. Dislikes wish it was built with a wheel on the back. Or least more protection to the hull of the back. To reduce scraping when trying to load by yourself. ( if any one has any ideas on how to load without damaging the the hull please comment or message me. ) other than that really like the kayak. Only been out once with it.

Nice little 'yak - great value
Arrived as promised, on time, well packaged. No dings or other damage. Was a simple job of attaching the rudder (just need a Phillips head screwdriver and two small wrenches or pliers). Seat fasteners are easy to work out and adjust, as are the steering pedals.Out on the water, it's stable, rides smoothly and the rudder makes it easy to steer. Some reviewers lament the poor tracking without the rudder, but my impression was that it was fine using paddles alone. That said, using the rudder - as it's designed - it tracks beautifully.Only minor issue is that the cable fasteners for the two bungees on either side of the cockpit (to hold the paddle in place when fishing???) both detached for some reason. I super glued the fasteners to the bungees, so all fine there. All in all an exceptional value and I look forward to spending lots of time out on the river in this kayak, fishing, paddling, bird watching, whatever...

its ok, not what its cut out to be
When i got this package, it came nice and sealed with an abundance of protection on it. after openening it i discovered one of the straps/bungie cords on it was broken, the foot pedals for the rudder system were also not working like they should have been. I took the kayak out one time and realized it leaned on one side, unsure why. There was also a small scratch on the front, side of the kayak upon its arrivalas for the comfort level, the seat with this kayak is good for short periods of time, it also kept sliding down leaving you in a laid back position making it very difficult to fish properly. I was also unable to get my personal belongings while out in the kayak without fear of flipping over. The storage compartments were not accessible while out on the water, you would have to find something stable to hold on to to access the front storage compartment to prevent from flipping over.

Disappointed
The kayak was a bit unstable. The seat was uncomfortable and the seat back would not stay up right. I am very disappointed in this item.

Solid Buy
Instructions and manual could be tailored to the product, but not the end of the world. Kayak is pretty solid and runs nicely in the water. Had for two months and have used it a bunch of times already. No issues yet.

If you are a YakAngler look somewhere else.
Wow, all I can say. It does not track well or at all. Plastic pour was uneven and bumpy. The bottom of the Yak is uneven due to the poor placement of added flotation that also doubles as cockpit area support. The anchor trolley was designed by a Kindergarten class of aspiring bloggers or maybe by Riot's drinking team while browsing Yak fishing forums to copy fail Ideas from tools. If you fish with good equipment do not trust the rod holder, its a china copy of Scotty. The lid does not seal AT ALL very very UNSAFE if you flip it and if you fish from it you WILL, primary stability is decent but secondary stability is non-existent so careful swamping this POS.I had to send the first one back due to DOA; Missing parts, seat anchor points as well as deep scratches that will inevitably end as hull failure. Almost felt like it was a DEMO or floor sample. Later that week I received the 2nd one thanks to great prime membership service, but alas again (this time my fault for still having faith on this POS) it looks like it was manufacture by someone rejected from Riot's drinking team with something to proof. Same failures than the first one minus the scratches, but the bottom of the hull once again like the ocean waves.BTW I took it out on a very choppy day and for my complete surprise and amazement it performed as well as my OCEAN KAYAK TRIDENT on similar conditions. Its to bad you cant trust it due to a heavy leaky console cover, the yak had almost 2 gals of water just from the spray coming over the bow. However, on a flat day still can't hold a straight line; Need proof? Just look at the promo video and take a look of the lady how the bow swings left and right as she paddles it on a nice flat day! Needless to say I send it back, not worth the hassle, if you are new to kayak this will put you off from the sport. There are many other options at this price range and even cheaper. Sorry Riot I rally was trying to like it, even gave it a fair second chance. But, you guys miss the mark by a long shot.

Update - using the Riot Escape 12
I have been all over looking for a combination of decent features with reasonable price for a fishing kayak. The Riot Escape 12 fit the bill and was I ever pleased to see it at Amazon.ca (that's .ca in case you missed it).edit Mar. 1/2013: Amazon.ca fixed the ordering problem - kayak is ordered - thx to all the ataff there that helped. Stars adjusted - I will report when I get to paddling.edit Aug. 24/2013: VERY stable boat - guy waited too long to slow down in his floating macho-machine but I merely rolled slightly in 1'+ waves from the side. This is NOT a racing kayak, but it works just dandy for what I bought it for - rudder connection instructions are a little on the poor side (less than poor really) but the rudder setup isn't hard to figure out (tighten the straps and you get your play).I added:-pulleys for the anchor trolley rather than the pad eyes they had - smoother (I used Harken 350's).-stainless washers for the cable connections at the rudder to buffer the closed-eyes against abrasion-a lanyard to pull the center hatch lid back since, once flipped open, I couldn't reach it-the obvious milk crate for my 'treasures' (don't need it always BUT it is a great catchall for longer outings)So, in conclusion, I'd say money well spent and a little extra attention has me a very nice fishing kayak at a VERY fair price.4.6 out of 5

getting what you pay for
First of all this kayak is very reasonably priced. But you have to know, you're paying $700 and that's what you're getting, a $700 kayak. This does not compare to the quality of a trident or wilderness or any of the other $1300 kayaks. The 4 rod holders on the kayak are great. The removable one needs to be moved or not used, which is ok. The rudder is a little stiff but works great. There is lots of storage space for overnighters. Lots of room in the back for a cooler or whatever. All in all I would buy it again. Just don't think you're getting a high end kayak, it kinda seems like a china made product. The shipping was great. I live in Manitoba and it was shipped to my door in less than a week.Hope this helps.Chad
