How did we live without this?
My husband is British. We drink a lot of tea. We also have our own well which produces safe, but nasty sulphur-smelling water. First we treat the water with a bleach and salt system in the garage to protect our pipes and ourselves, and then the water comes into the house and to our bar sink. There, one more time, we filter all our drinking and some of our cooking water, with the InSinkErator HWT-F1000S Hot Water Tank and Filtration System. It's not necessary for health or safety, but it does make the water taste a whole lot better, and it is probably wiser not to be ingesting all that salt and bleach. I should also add that we have had our water tested and it is fine without the additional InSinkErator filtration. But, I am fussy about how water tastes; it makes a difference to me to have pure water in drinks and cooking. I grew up in NH with Well water which came up though 200 feet of pure granite and sand. Fancy bought waters don't taste as good as our NH water. A visiting PHD Water Engineer couldn't believe the purity of our NH water! Holding a glass to the window, he remarked, "but there is no particulate matter!" So, you can see, I am spoiled when it comes to water. The InsinkErator Hot Water Tank and Filtration System only falls slightly short of producing New Hampshire pure water. In other words, the filtered water is just about perfection, and that is starting with substandard water to begin with. Once filtered , the water loses all traces of stinky aftertaste, bleach, salt, sulphur, etc... Until we bought this system, I would only drink bottled water, and only certain brands. Now, I drink tap water and like it! Which brings us to the tap itself: the InSinkErator F-HC2200SN Indulge Antique Hot and Cold Water Dispenser. I chose the tap because it coordinated with the country look of my Beadboard kitchen. Since the main prep sink has a brushed nickel faucet, all the cupboard knobs and pulls are brushed nickel and the appliances are stainless steel, I wanted this Tap to coordinate. I chose the satin nickel finish. It goes nicely with all the stainless and brushed nickel. You never know if "satin" or "brushed" mean the same or not, it depends on the manufacturer. It was a relief that this was the right choice. It's good there are so many finishes to choose from. It took less than two hours for my husband to install the system. He has done some plumbing before, but this is not his field of expertise, so he was pleasantly surprised that the installation went off without a hitch. Our bar sink counter already had a hole drilled. How do I use the instant hot water tap? All the time, it's FAST! We've had an electric kettle forever, which is a whole lot faster than boiling water on the stove, but this tap puts an electric kettle to shame. Hot, 200 degree water in an Instant - Immediately - No waiting. Fancy a spot of tea? Warm the cup, add the teabag and fill the cup. It works equally well for loose teas with a tea ball or through a strainer. There is more than enough hot water to fill teapots or cooking pots. It's wonderful for hot cocoa or instant oatmeal. Why boil water for rice? I use the filtered 200 degree water for most cooking. I use a Pyrex measuring cup to transport the hot water to the stovetop. I should add I have a pot filler, but for some things you just want the pure, filtered water or the 200 degree water to speed things up. The hot water is great for soaking off labels or making sure things are really clean or disinfected. I could imagine a young mother would find it useful for rinsing off pacifiers. If you want the water to come out slowly, pull the lever forward; if you want the water faster, push the lever back. The cold water lever will lock in position when pushed back, this is useful for filling pitchers to make cold drinks or filling the coffee pot with pure, filtered water. This tap and filtration is much faster at delivering water than a reverse osmosis system. This is one of the main reasons we chose it. The replacement filters are easy to order from Amazon and are $30 maybe twice a year. Sometimes I will hear the rumble of the hot water heating up, but it is not as noisy as the icemaker, which is next to the bar sink. We enjoy not only the pure, filtered water every day, but not a day goes by when we don't use the hot water feature several times. Having on-demand instant 200 degree water is a not only a convenience, but a luxury that I now can't imagine living without.

Compact, adjustable, reliable
My new kitchen came with a hot water on demand faucet. To me, seemed like a silly luxury, but I reluctantly bought this so I didn't have a dispenser that wasn't being used. To my surprise, I lOVE it. It's really nice to have on demand hot water, and it can be dialed up or down to your preference. (I turn it all the way down when I am on vacation so it doesn't waste power) It's silent, reliable, and while a little more that I imagined spending for such a thing, I would buy it all over again if needed. Mine has been in use for 2 years now, no issues at all so far.

Quite possibly the most poorly designed and executed item of plumbing equipment on the market
I don't like spending time writing negative reviews. I feel if someone tried to create something, it's worth finding all of the positive characteristics and accentuating those while also providing constructive feedback for areas that might need improvement (in my opinion). I don't know if Insinkerator created the market for instant hot water dispensers, but if they did, kudos. Great idea! The design and manufacturing execution of this product is horrendous. I believe that products reflect company culture. I would not want to be an employee who cared about quality products at Insinkerator. Those employees must feel abandoned. Their culture is clearly defined by the Finance and Accounting Office and the Marketing Department, not engineering, product design and manufacturing. Everything about this product screams poor design and cost cutting, while also being priced at a premium. I purchased my first version of this unit a few years ago and it leaked from day one. A few drops here and there coming from the top and the sides of the unit. At the time, it was suggested this was within normal operating tolerances and a small drip pan underneath would suffice. The unit did product hot water afterall. Within a couple of years, the leaks became larger and the top nozzles all started corroding and the unit fully failed. Insinkerator clearly knew there was a problem with the design because their new marketing materials clearly state this product is now a new design with improved reliability and quality. Ok, so I already owned a very expensive insinkerator faucet to go with this unit, I went ahead and ordered the new and improved tank. First tank comes and there's a rattle inside. I'm told this is normal. Ok, fine. I connect all of the hoses securely (I'm a pretty accomplished DIYer overall), and start filling the tank with water (not plugging it in yet). Immediately there are leaks at the top and coming out of the sides of the unit. The unit isn't even turned on to heat yet. Not realizing the water actually came out of the side of the unit, I take the unit off and recheck the connections. The main water connection is a plastic quick connect with plastic threads for a compression connection. This is a $250 unit with a plastic threaded compression connection. Guess what happens to plastic when you need to compress the collar for a tight seal. You got it, not holding power and the threads gave way (wasn't over-torquing as the compression sleeve was still loose when the threads gave way). Went to the Home Depot to get a replacement part (I didn't buy the unit at HD, but they do sell this unit). No replacement parts sold, need to contact the manufacturer. Fortunately, the associate at the Home Depot took a box apart and gave me the part I need (thumbs up to HD customer service on this one). I reinstall, secure and test the connections and again fill with water. Same leaking. Note also that the other two connections on the unit are only a compression fit, no mechanical fasteners. If you throw something under the sink and snag one of those hoses, they are easily coming off. Exchange for new unit from Amazon within 30 day window (kudos to Amazon for making this as easy as it gets) and get my new unit. This was the identical unit with the filter system. In the box is the unit, but no filtration system. I guess I'm ok, I have the other one, but this was supposed to be the exact same product and it was missing a component. Reinstalled the new unit, made the connections and ran water through it. No leaking this time. We'll see if that changes. I'll update the review if there is a premature failure. I've noticed that this unit heats a bit slower than the one I replaced. They make an upgraded model for $450 that they say is faster. I'm not going to waste any more money with Insinkerator products so sticking with this one. It did heat up to the desired temperature in about 10min. I did read some other reviews that suggest this is on demand in unlimited quantities. That is not true. If you run enough hot water to clear the tank, cold water will come out. It needs time to heat the water. Certainly more than enough for a carafe of tea or cup of hot chocolate, etc. Again, conceptually, this is great. Instant filtered hot water. Awesome. I just wish that the premium price tag was accompanied by a premium product that lasts a reasonable amount of time and comes with quality components for installation. Once this one dies, I'm done with Insinkerator. I haven't looked at what else is out there, but if you are buying a new system, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Nice unit and gets the job done, but beware if you have hard water
I've bought three of these units now: one for our old house, one for our new house (that lasted 5 years before it stopped working) and a second to replace it. What I like about these units, are the stainless steel tanks and the many faucet options that are available. What I'm not so crazy about are the costly filters they come with, they are better than nothing, but I think a much better option is to put in a separate dedicated water filter system (that's what I ended up doing). Many people have mentioned how quickly these units fail, or even leak, my belief is that's mostly due to water hardness. Since these constantly heat water, there is going to be scale buildup, and unless you do regular maintenance to remove that scale, it is going to fail. We have hardness of about 20 gpg, and our unit lasted 5 years (coincidentally, our tankless water heater lasted exactly as long, and when I removed the heat exchanger it was full of scale and corrosion, so I can only imagine what our Insinkerator water heater looked like as well). If you know you have hard water, it makes a lot of sense to consider either small dedicated water softener, or whole house softener, I wish I had known this when I bought our first unit.

My favorite appliance!!
This purchase was a replacement for the same model that we've had for 8 years, when we remodeled our kitchen. This is an amazing product! I use it every day, multiple times a day. I begin by warming my cup while the coffee is brewing. It quickly cuts grease from dishes and makes any instant drink or oatmeal or soup in a snap. When I begin with this tap water, the wait for boiled water is cut short. Our original tank came with a filter but the plumber did not install it and we neglected to add it. There was never an odor and the flow rate did not seem impacted. We did install the filter this time and will regularly do so. When reading reviews and researching this type of product to replace, we did discover that it is common for them to begin leaking around year 7 or 8 due to the aluminum tank lining. This model is on the lower priced end (not lowest) but we have been very happy with it and the cost is worth every penny. It has 2 flow rates, which is convenient, and we never use enough at one time to run out of the near boiling water. You will occasionally hear the tank heating but it is not loud. The week without it convinced me that we will never be without it. I highly recommend!!
