Guide to JSF in Java EE Review
Very very detailed guide to installing and using the JSF 2 framework in a Dynamic Web Project. A great tool box of information.

Probably the best coverage of JSF 2.3 with Java EE8
Both authors have for years been deeply involved in the development and happenings around Java EE and JSF. Both have helped thousands of us, involved in the development of Web Applications with JSF, through their contributions --answers to pertinent questions and further advise-- at "Stack Overflow", without which most of us would be stuck or would have needed hours of research to resolve . I always wished experts like Bauke and Arjan, wrote a book including all this practical knowledge of theirs. So it was really exciting when I saw the title and the authors' names, while searching Amazon for a book on JSF 2.3 and Java EE8.The excitement has been entirely justified! The authors go in depth and demystify issues that are hidden 'under the hood' in the JSF framework and their resolution (Chapter 1-"History" is must reading for those of us who have always had trouble understanding the evolution of the framework and the frustrating double-standards of e.g. JSF Managed Beans and CDI); as a result they afford a much needed clarification to anyone that has worked with Java EE and JSF and always missed the 'aha-feeling' due to a lack of any information on these hidden issues. Although this book, implicitly presupposes you have some basic familiarity with JSF -other cornerstone books to get an excellent base for JSF would be "Core JSF" by D.Geary-C.Horstmann, Prentice Hall, 3rd Edition and "Java EE7 Recipes by J.Juneau APress- with close reading it is an eye opener.Recommended to all novice and expert developers working with Java EE and JSF.

Good technical detail, not the easiest to digest
The book is chock-full of solid technical detail and I highly recommend it for those *that already know what they're doing and what they're looking for*. Certainly not for beginners or anyone less than advanced-intermediate to pro.

Informative, easy to understand but minor weaknesses
I like this book. It explains most of the concepts of JSF in an easy-to-understand manner and goes into detail where necessary. Since this book is meant for intermediate level users (even says so on the back) some basic familiarity with JSF is assumed. That's not a bad thing. But you have to note that beginners will likely have some difficulty understanding some of the material. But there are some weaknesses. The best way to read it is from front to back. Why? Because it's hard to jump between topics. The index is sorely lacking. It would have been nice to have all the components listed in the index. The book is probably not meant as a reference but since the components are described in detail anyway it would have been nice to be able jump to them. You can get by by looking in the table of contents for the general topic and then leafing through the next few pages. This is tedious at times, though.

Must have, to master JSF.
I have been a JSF developer for nearly a decade. One of the co-author, Bauke Scholtz is a top contributor in Stackoverflow. After going through this book, I can easily say that this is definitely an eye opener. It deals with all the aspects that you should know about JSF even though you are an expert in it.

A good lecture also for the beginner!
I like this book much! It is on the one side pretty short for this big topic, but it contains all the information you need to understand the architecture of JSF and to begin your own development. The only small problem: it were cool to have an e-book as addition, too.
