We are servers, not victims!
Sorry for the life you lived, some kids grow up living with that same kind of terror inside there so called loving homes! Very interesting book, author seems bitter about the way she grew up. Many of us have grown up in violent situations that we were unable to control.Instead looking at the downfall or failure in ever case, look at what good you did. Let the good over ride any bad.

Great Life Story
What a gripping account of ones life. Born in Europe, endured WWII in Europe, subsequently moved to the United States. This story is one you just don't want to put down as things are always developing in the life of the main character. Many of the situations are commonplace in other people's lives, but you are pulled into the story as it developers and you just want to see how things work out. After reading the book, you will want to reflect on some of incidents in the story and ponder how you can, should, would respond in similar situations. This is a study in human responses if you care to reflect on what you have read. There are some serious issues here to ponder. After reading the story, I reflected on situations in my life that I innocently responded in an inappropriate manner. There were some lessons here to be learned by me.

When the war is over!
I first read this book under the title "When the War is Over" - and was moved to tears. How one person could endure such horrors in life, and yet live day to day as if there were nothing out of the ordinary - working, parenting -- is a true mystery. What's more, the writer has shown such strength in her life, not only in character but also physically. I can attest to so much of what she went through, as I am not only her biggest and most ardent fan, but also her daughter. After reading her book -- I can only wonder how she was able to be such a caring mother, and friend to others.

Surviving in war torn Europe at the end of the 2nd World War
Incisive, very poignant, heartfelt. Small eyes watching the horror of the era, a tender heart wondering why it is happening. A child becoming an adult, no teenage years allowed. And yet this child survives, and eventually finds happiness, even chocolate.

Let me tell you about my journey but wait let me tell about relationship with my mother first.
I thought this would be a book about interesting journey. Instead, the writer talks more about her relationship with her mother.

Great strength
Born in 1935 in Ukraine, under Stalin and then Hitler's rule, Agathe shares her own very personal and tragic life, which continued for many years while still living under the manipulative control of others. And yet, Agathe hasemerged triumphant, now receiving and sharing the love of God. I think she has great strength and courage; shehas survived and shared her story with the world.

The chocolate bar
I first was introduced to Agathe von Kampens writing by a friend who told me I just had to buy this book "I would love it." So based on that recommendation I set out to purchase "When The War Is Over". When I picked up the book I thought ok here goes, not one to be easily swayed, I will read anything yes even the phone book I set myself up for some high expectations. Not only were these expectations met they were well surpassed. Much to my surprise and delight I finished this book in 3 days I found myself so intrigued by the wide range of emotions I felt reading it that I couldn't put it down. From her rebellious childhood to her hiding in a cave I felt as if I was right there right now.I laughed with her ,cried with her and somehow I could relate to her. Flash forward to "the chocolate bar" This same friend caught me the other day and said hey did you see there is a new book? You really should get it called "the chocolate bar" it is so much better than the first. Well guess what I plan on buying yep. can't imagine not having this book it is really that good.
