No more fumbling for keys or worrying if I locked up when I rushed out. This lock handles it all with a sleek, user-friendly interface. Whether I'm loaded with groceries or out for a jog, this lock has become an essential part of my daily routine. It's practical, reliable, and honestly, makes me feel a bit like a tech wizard every time I use it.

Nice lockset with small issue (easily resolved)
I purchased this lock for the touchpad features as well as the capability to integrate into my home automation system via Z-wave. I ran into a small issue during installation that I was able to resolve. I feel it might be helpful to inform others on how to resolve, since it was a simple fix (but not obvious). The issue: The turnpiece (knob on inside to turn to lock and unlock) and shaft were pointing 180 degrees in the wrong direction. The turnpiece should be oriented pointing up when the lock is closed was instead pointing down and limited in range. Since the shaft (from the outside part of the lock) that mates with the turnpiece is keyed (looks like a "D" in profile), it must be oriented in a specific way to mate correctly. Since the turnpiece was oriented in the wrong direction and has stops limiting the range, it appeared that the only way to make this work would be to install the part of the lock visible inside the house upside down. Clearly unacceptable.Long story short: I started the return process with Amazon and the first recommendation that appeared was to call Kwikset customer service. I called and resolved the issue over the phone in about 10 minutes. It was quick and right to the point. The resolution: I was asked to hold the inside half of the lock (together with electronics /motor still inside) and turn the turnpiece (knob) to the upright orientation (pointing up). The knob/shaft had some resistance - stops - that I had to firmly turn past in order to get the correct orientation. Once the orientation was correct, I was able to pull the insides out of the back case (per the instructions) and continue the installation as per the instructions. Well it worked!Final notes: This was a direct replacement for a deadbolt. Except for the small issue above, it was really easy and relatively straightforward. Not only was the installation quick and easy, but the pairing to my home automation system was simple. The lock looks good and functions exactly as expected. I only wish they would have included this troubleshooting tip either in the instructions or online.

Nice lock - Something to know about the Zwave protocol!
So, the lock and features are very good. I've had another unit for six years with little problems. Typically 3-4 four times over the span I had to reset battery power to sync up, or move the interior lever back 'n forth to engage the gear correctly.A few new ones (non-Zwave, WiFi units), I had to pulled the battery tabs out a bit on the battery pack so they would make better contact to the unit when slid back in. The lock was going offline, dead, or motor made a very weak attempt at unlocking....all related to the battery tabs and running batteries low.For those where they have Zwave automation connected to an older hub as I do. I'm using a Honeywell Tuxedo home automation hub. Now these newer locks use Zwave with high security encryption I think its S2. The new lock no longer speaks to the hub to disarm Tuxedo upon door unlock. I can still lock and unlock the via Tuxedo built-in webserver and at the Tuxedo keypad. My option is to upgrade the Tuxedo unit because it seems they're no longer providing firmware updates, or I upgrade the entire unit to the latest Tuxedo model. I think I'm opting to go with the Quolsys4 system. Tuxedo/Honeywell just weren't adding features or providing support for legacy or even during its run. Quolsys is focused on their product(s) as it's their main product. Quolsys4 is also compatible with Honeywell/Resideo 5800 series wireless field devices, more IP video camera options, cellular monitoring, and robust Zwave home automation devices. Good luck.

Touch sensor is hit or miss
I had high expectations for this device, and aside from the touch screen it actually hit all of them.* The GoodInstallation wasn't too bad, though I wasted about an hour misunderstanding the auto-door handing (my door is a left-hand inswing and I thought I'd installed wrong until I let it auto-hand it). Connecting via Z-Wave to my 2GIG panel was also easy, and then it immediately appeared in my Alarm.com app as an accessory. I also love that the keyhole is available as a backup, and even better it can be rekeyed to a Kwikset SmartKey.* The BadThe problems started with the weather. When the outside temperature dropped below 40ºF the touch screen completely stopped responding. I could still control the lock from my app and my panel (as well as the manual controls and the key), but the touch screen would not work at all. When the weather warmed up, things started working again. But a few weeks ago, even though the weather has not been too cold, the touch screen is spotty. The instructions say to use three fingers to wake up the device, but this does not always work. It might take a couple attempts, at which point you might accidentally hit a number, which can cause a failed attempt and lock the unit for a minute. This also reports a "tamper" event to an alarm unit. Not fun.But even when the touch screen is working well, it's not great. There's no indication that any number has ever been pressed. I've typed out my pin only to find out that it didn't catch one of the numbers, which requires me to type another number to finish the attempt, trigger the "tamper" event and then try again. If you can't successfully hit the numbers after a few attempts you'll be locked out for a full minute. It's frustrating and in an emergency situation where you must enter your home quickly it's a non starter.I ultimately decided I had to move this lock to a less sensitive area because the chances of being locked out by a touchscreen simply weren't worth it. A plain old dumb deadbolt was less trouble.

Well-engineered and integrates well with multiple smart home systems
I first integrated this with a Universal Devices ISY-994 controller over z-wave and it worked great! I later integrated it with my Ring Alarm and I am even happier because the Ring integration is very clever and intuitive. If there are multiple users setup on the Ring Alarm panel, the same code can be used to unlock/lock the door as well as disarm/arm the alarm. Ring app will tell you who unlocked the door.

Great lock
Works very well with wave 2 hub, love the feature of getting notice as soon as door lock Open and closes. Plus cash open from phone.

Misleading item on Kwikset Smartcode Touchscreen Electronic Deadbolt
The Kwikset SmartCode Touchscreen Electronic Deadbolt Featuring SmartKey Security was fine but was so disappointed that I did not receive the "Avalon Handleset with Tustin Right Handed and Left Handed Lever Work" which say "AND" in the item description and kind of mislead me in buying the item.

Easy to install, easy to pair, works great
Swapped out a 910 which has no keypad just a key lock with zwave - still working just fine for a couple years - this one is now on the back door. Anyway the 916 with touch pad is so much more convenient... also is zwave + and is smaller and quieter! The original shipment came in wrong color, but Amazon quickly sent a replacement... easy to pair to vera plus... easy to program codes... easy to install... and easy to re-key. Works great!
