Better than the cheap fork mounted ones
I replaced a fork mounted mudguard with this and I'm pleased with the product. The fork mounted one would always get in the way when I had to clean or wipe down the stanchions, and it would also get slightly knocked out of position after a rough ride where it would start making constant contact with the tire. This downtube mudguard is much easier to remove for a quick cleaning and does as good of a job against dust, mud, etc., from what I can tell.

nice cheap mud guard - decently sized for its weight.
Very easy to install, will work on a wide range of bikes due to design. I have a bike with an incredibly thick carbon top tube, and it still fits perfectly. I'm not sure why people think this is too small - a lot of mountain bikes use one MUCH smaller than this. If you want a full front fender, then get a full front fender. This is not a fender, it is a mud guard - different thing. Fenders are meant to completely contain water at the tire, and have practically zero clearance. They have to be very carefully installed if you want to get the best performance. Mud guards like this are basically just a cheap piece of plastic that keeps 80-90% of the spray off you. It's MUCH better than nothing, and it can be taken on and off in a matter of seconds, whereas a real fender requires like 10 minutes and tools.

Good for a strap-on fender
Really like this little fender. I bought two for my old steel frame mtb turned commuter bike. These provide good basic "puddle-splash" protection. I have one mounted on the frame's down-tube, and the other to the underside of my bike-carrier rack. Neither required modification. The mounting straps work well and if/when they rot or break I have zip-straps to replace them. The "nubs" on the back of the fender work on my frame without modification and do not hinder any of my cabling, but larger aluminum tubing bikes may have different results. However, even with limited ingenuity, I doubt this would not work on 99% of bikes. So far these fenders have kept mud and water off my front-side and back-side...

Worth it to stay dry and clean
Purchased this for my fat tire bike to keep mud and snow off of me and my bottles. It seems to be made of good quality plastic with little flex. The included bands barely fit my frame, but I was able to stretch them and make them work. I've only ridden once in the snow with it installed but it seems to keep it from flinging debris back. I feel it's worth the price.

Top quality
Bought this with the rear seat tube clamp-on mudgaurd. Worked great. Very light and handy to install.

Easy mounting, limited effectiveness in rain
Mounted easily on my touring bike. No noticeable interference with my pedals or my down tube shift cables. Haven't ridden in rain yet to judge it's effectiveness but looks like it will do just fine. Hopefully the rubber mounting straps will stand the test of time. Update:Oct 2017, downgrading to 3 stars While on a tour I rode over three hours in a heavy rain storm. Also used it on the GAPCO where I had to trek through 30 miles of puddles and mud. From those experiences I can tell you this fender's effectiveness is limited at best. In fact, during heavy rain, any time I turned the bike the fender dumped the rain wash directly onto my bike shoes. The fender is good for keeping the occasional crud off your frame (as long as the wheel is pointed straight), but don't buy it expecting it to keep you dry. I'll be in the market for full fenders before my next tour.

A nice item to supplement your front fender
I got this MudX today with a rough idea on how and where I wanted to mount it on my Jeep AWD mountain bike. I tried to mount it using the rubber straps that came with the item on the bike, but they were too flimsy for my liking. So I picked up 2 fatteners of the same type except longer, getting 2 stainless steel washers too. After a rough fitting of the MudX, I got my Dremel and smoothed out the 2 lower mounting holes. Putting some thread lock on the threads, I tightened them down snuggly. I’ll spray paint the fasteners with rust-preventing bed liner as soon as I can. This project turned out better than I expected. This MudX isn’t going to wiggle off; the rubber straps, hook, and loop straps are too lightweight for me. This MudX isn’t a great addition to my Christini Jeep mountain bike, keeping my water bottle and front derailleur clean and dry. I am very happy with all the SKS products I have bought and this MudX isn’t no exception!

Well designed, sturdy, easy on, easy off
This was just what I was looking for. This is a solid nicely designed piece of equipment. It locks on firmly and stays in place even at top speed. Easy on easy off I don’t usually need a fender, but when I do this works great. I had tried another brand that looks good in the photos but turned out to be flimsy and awkward and more expensive. But this sks mud-x is everything I hoped it would be after checking out the listing. In fact, it’s better than what I expected.

Great mudguard, fits my bike well and tight
Great mudguard, good shape, high quality rigid plastic which makes it strong and durable. The bolt holes didn't match up to the ones on my bike, but the included rubber fitting system worked just as well. The only downside is that the mud guard is easy to remove from the bike when using the rubbers which is an issue for me, As i am a city rider worried about theft. To help this i have added zipties through the elastics and mudguard threads to make it more of a pain for an opportunist theif.

Perfectly what it is
I've had this for about 18 months now. Despite the fact that I think it was intended for an MTB size wheel and a thin chromoly down tube, I gambled on using it with a fat aluminum frame and 29" wheels. While the downtube won't fit into the groove, this is not noticeable and doesn't seem to cause any problems. It does not slip or vibrate. It is less hassle than most fenders I've ever had. The two rubber straps hold it on very firmly (I don't think I've ever had to adjust them) and I am spared getting wet and dirty. It's also very simple to install. \O/
