We purchased our first one when the kids were young as a way to make snow cones and bring back memories our youth. It has served us well over the years and now that the kids are off in college, we bought them each one to take with them. Not only do they enjoy them as a treat, they love these when they are a bit under the weather. They will take the ice shavings and cover them with a bit of ginger ale. It really soothes a sore throat. As for the machine itself, yes, it is a bit noisy, but only while you are shaving the ice and that only lasts a minute or so. We use regular cubes from the automatic icemaker and they work fine. It is very easy to use, the kids did it all themselves. One word of advice, remember to put a little bowl under the slot after you are done shaving ice, because the unshaven ice left in the machine will melt and drip out. All in all, it is a great product that works well, is easy to use and is built to last. I hope it brings you as many great memories as it brought us.

If you're into real Hawaiian style shave ice you might be disappointed. The ice comes out in fine to small chips. This of course is because it uses ice cubes instead of a larger piece of ice run over a bigger blade. It works great and you don't have to fill special ice trays which is the reason I bought it. I doubt that the kiddo's will mind. Update; the motor won't go anymore. I got a dead one on my hands. To late for a return so I have to chased down HSI CS to see what they will do. Bummer in the Summer... Updated: After call CS The HSI staff sent a new one out, pretty good service. The gave me the option of a full refund or a replacement, I like the machine so I opted to another unit. Now will see if the replacement lasts.

This shaver is user friendly and it does as it's described. I made my first shaved ice treat with it and it was pretty good. I tried the Tiger's Blood flavor and it was very tasty. I am pleased with my purchase. And I expect that this product will serve me well.

Wow! As a family we are Slurpee / Slushy fiends. Especially during the scorching summer months. When we first got the idea of slushies at home, we tired our blender first. No luck there- it could hardly function, let alone crush ice the way we needed it to. From there, we went on to an electric "Ice Shaver". All that one did was make a horrid sound and spit out little bits of ice chunks that melted before it could be collected. After dealing with the noise from that machine, we thought we would go more low-tech. We opted for a Jelly Belly Manual Ice Shaver. Yeah, right. I was about to give up when I mentioned to a friend of mine the difficulty we were having with finding a good machine. She then introduced me to her Hawaiian Snow Cone Machine by Hawaiian Shaved Ice! Hers was an older model, inherited from her mother at some point. It worked like a dream. I started doing research to try and track one down only to find out that the S500 model she had was discontinued. I opted for the S700, since it seemed like essentially the same thing. As soon as it arrived, we put it together- which is a breeze, by the way- plugged it in, and watched it go! This is probably the happiest I've ever been with a small kitchen appliance. It's a fairly compact machine, doesn't take up much room in the cabinet at all. And, it goes together so easily that you can actually take it apart and store it in it's original box. You want a slushy, you take it out of the box, put it together in about 2 minutes, toss in the ice and in another few minutes you have a mound of fluffy, white, snowy-icy goodness! It's not even very loud, which is great! Yep, I love this machine! I highly recommend it. And I hardly ever do that. Also, I've never been so happy with something that I felt prompted to actually write a review for it!

I read all of the reviews on other products before choosing this produect. LOVE IT !!!! Hope it lasts forever but I would buy another one if it every breaks. I wanted to make smoothies and didn't want chunks of ice.... This is perfect. fyi: I watched the little video made by one reviewer (the only negative review because he said it was loud... good demo video... and he actually likes it better than his other ice breaker.) In my opinion, not louder than any other product. Makes a nice little bowl of snowflake type shaved ice - perfect for smoothies, snow cones, etc. 5 icecubes make enough for one. (Room for more if you want) I spoon the shave ice into my smoothies and blend. (Note: I tried putting the shaved ice into the cup and then pouring the smoothie over - but noticed that it iced up and became a little harder.... so best to blend all together.) NOTICE: Instructions say to not run it more than 2 minutes or it could overheat. So just follow the instructions. Very easy set-up... and I just leave it out as I use it all the time. Doesn't need cleaning. - Just put an empty bowl under the spout when you're done to temporarily catch any left over drips from unused ice. (I am technically challenged :) so I couldn't figure out the simple instruction for turning the lid to make it work...but my friend was here and she did understand easily.)

First, this is the best ice shaver I've had over the years, (about 4 total). Not too bad for the price. Next time, though, I am putting out the money for a stainless steel heavy duty model. The shaved ice is good, partly shaved, partly tiny chunks, and no issue with the finished ice. The process however, leaves a bit to be desired. As another reviewer mentioned, the first few times, there were bits of shaved plastic in the ice...not good. Secondly, using standard ice cubes, using this is painfully slow ... the cube ice does not "catch"on the shaver, so its a constant battle, opening the lid and repositioning the ice, and letting it run some minutes hoping for the ice to catch and shaving to be made. Commercial bagged ice worked a lot better, though not perfectly. Crushed ice works great, but, gee, kinda, what's the point? I am enjoying it, but won't purchase again or recommend.

LOVE this! Fit this for my son for Christmas, we love it. Can be loud but it works pretty fast so it doesn’t bother us. Makes individual cups

a little noisy, but that is to be expected while shredding ice. works pretty quickly, just keep kids hands away since blade could still be accessed by where snow falls from on the bucket.

I love it! Makes my life easy this summer making halo halo for my kids. Easy to follow instruction and a good value for money. Shipping was fast too.

Great ice shave all around. Sometimes it makes a screeching noise when shaving. Biggest disappointment is the high fructose corn syrup in the flavour bottles.
