Looking for something to support my bad back while sitting on the floor playing with my 1 yr old daughter. Would this provide enough support?

Yes! We have two of these stashed behind a bookshelf in our living room that we bring out EVERY morning and evening when we're playing on the floor with our daughter. They give amazing back support (and the angle is adjustable). I now prefer sitting on the floor to the couch. They have been going strong for two years now, and I am ordering some for the grandparents!

I believe it would be too wide to fit into a stadium seat.

is it sturdy enough for heavy people

I would say yes since I weigh 205 lbs and it seemed to hold up well; but I was relatively careful with it since it didn't seem to be heavy-duty construction. If you're extremely heavy, say over 225 lbs., then I wouldn't think it would hold up for long.
