I have been coloring my hair for over 30 years - both salon and home boxed colors (mostly L'Oreal). For the last 10 years or so I have been various shades of lighter reds. My natural color has been a medium mousey brown color/grey. The roots have mostly been a brown mixed with a lot of grey. I wanted to get back to my natural color - mostly to see how much (if any) brown was left and how the grey actually looked. The idea was to get back to a natural grey, and if it looks good, to stop coloring it. This worked very well for removing the color. I seem to have some color remaining (my hair looks more blond than grey) so I may do another treatment. Right now I don't see much of my natural brown, but after so long coloring my hair, it may have all gone grey ;). I'm not sure if there is residue that is making my hair more "blond" than grey or if I just have a very yellow natural grey. I will wait a few days and try a purple shampoo. As far as using the product: The odor was not bad at all. It was strong at first, but once the initial 20 minutes under the bag was done, it wasn't bad at all. My husband noted there was an odor, but even he said it was not bad. And it seems gone the day after. My hair has a slight odor (next day) but others state it is not noticeable. I was very diligent at following the directions exactly. Apply and cover with bag for 20 minutes. Rinse for a full 20 minutes, then shampoo and 5 minute rinse times 3(!!) and then shampoo, rinse and condition. Total time was a bit over an hour. During the rinses my hair felt terrible. Very stiff and dry. But once I conditioned it, it was fine. I will deep condition it again today. Please make sure you look at the types of hair colors this will work on, as I think a number of the negative reviews are from trying this on the wrong types of dyes. I would recommend this, but if you are sensitive or have very damaged hair, do the recommended spot tests. Also note - this is a loooong time with running water so if you have a small water heater and don't enjoy cold showers, you may not want to use this particular product :).

I had dyed my hair burgundy a while back and it had faded to a kind of pinky-red. I wanted to transition to a blue-based color. Typically, I bleach my hair over the color and it works just fine, but this time my bleach test was a little rough so I decided to try Color Oops for the first time. I wish I'd just stuck with the bleach.The Color Oops worked, my hair is back to looking as if the red was never there, however it came with a steep price. First, the instructions are to rinse your hair, wash with shampoo, then rinse for 15-20 minutes, shampoo again, rinse for 5 minutes, shampoo for a third time, then rinse another 5 minutes before applying conditioner. I was in the shower for nearly 45 minutes.Two days after using it, my bathroom (and attached bedroom) still smell strongly of the chemicals, despite opening the window and running an air purifier for nearly 36 hours plus two liberal rounds of Febreeze spray. I could even smell it on my hands despite wearing the provided gloves.While washing it out, my hair felt very brittle and rough. Thankfully this has subsided but I was actually pretty nervous for a while about the texture. Also, while washing I noticed two small chunks that had turned green. This has also thankfully gone away.Last, I ordered the listing that said "2-Count" but only received one of the product. In the end though, I'm thankful for that in a way because I can't see myself ever using Color Oops again.Edit a few months later: I've knocked it down from 3 to 1 star because I believe Color Oops contributed to the failure of my next hair dye. I used the same brand I've been using off and on for a decade and had my first bad experience with it. I waited a few days after using the Color Oops even though the box boasts that you can recolor the same day. The color came out uneven and extremely light. After a couple weeks of being increasingly annoyed and disappointed, I decided to just do my normal routine of bleaching the color out then dying the next day. I did the same color again and it came out ten times better. I can't completely prove it was related to the Color Oops but the coincidence is too strong for me.

I used color oops not even 24 hours later after dying my hair, I had been dying my hair with a black box dyed and I wanted to go back to brown/my natural hair color. I was scared seeing all the reviews about the product but It got rid of all the black box dye, my roots were lighter because of the previous box dyed I used which was L’Oréal Féria 3x highlight in shade 65 honey brown that did not work. Which is why I decided to use color oops. The smell is bad but truly isn’t that bad as to what people are saying I give the smell like a 3/10 it’s really not bad. I wrapped my hair with the plastic given and a towel over it to trap/create more heat, I left it on for only 20 mins as it said in the instructions and I ran it until warm water for 20 MINS. I shampooed 3 times using a clarifying shampoo and used a hair conditioning mask and it was perfect!
