Super neat.
These are absolutely stainless steel sticks and ball bearings. They fit nicely in the case and it has some real weight to it. The first time I played with it, it left my fingers grey from the anti rust oil they used. I built the big pyramid and it was super sturdy. The magnets are pretty strong. It's so neat. The perfect desk time fidget toy. It keeps your brain occupied. I'm not sure how many different patterns there can be, but I'm sure I'll build them all eventually.

Same great quality as Swiss Geomag. Not for toddlers
I purchased both this 108 PC from CMS magnetics, as well as a smaller 44 set from Geomag (Swiss made), and wondering about the quality differences. I'll attempt a comparison of both: Geomag (other product): purchased Nov 9, shipped from UK, arrived Nov 27 CMS product (this one): purchased Nov 21, shipped from US, arrived Nov 27 Similarities: - both brands are exactly (and I mean *exactly*) the same build quality. Excellent build. Balls are stainless steel. Rods are plastic with neodymium magnets on ends. Differences: - (only) under close observation, the only visible difference I see is the minute branding etching/numbers on the rods, and more importantly, the length of these. CMS has rods about an inch long. Geomag's were slightly over 2 inches, if I recall correctly. In my case, I found having two sets of different length actually adds versatility, but arguably with the ones from CMS, you could stick two or more rods together to add length. Also, the longer length of the Geomag rods leads to greater overall structures which are somewhat more easily "crushed" by just own weight. The smaller pieces in the CMS product call for smaller structures (higher magnet density per unit volume) and hence are more stable structures. On the downside, though, you need comparably more pieces to attain the same size of a structure. I had intended this product for my toddler boy. I cannot realistically see him playing with this until he is older (maybe 5?). He would definitely like the toy at first (he is aged 3) but I can see all the small pieces scattered around the house (the steel balls, especially, do have a tendency to scatter) and/or showing to his 1-year-old sister, who might take the pieces to her mouth. I would definitely recommend going for a set of over 100 pieces, unless you are just wanting these for a desk/office toy. From what I've read, this happened to other buyers: the dads end up playing with the toy. But it is worth the money, and eventually, I'll learn to share with my son, as he grows into these.

The magnets are STRONK!
Zander is right, the box is horrible. It's a horrible box inside another horrible box. I didn't buy a box, I bought magnets. I couldn't care less about the box when the magnets are THIS GOOD. Compared to WITKA brand, these feel like something an adult will play with (yes you will), because you can build some pretty amazing things. Simple gadets, complicated structures, this set will do it for you. Construction is good (as is WIKTA), nothing feels cheap or about to fall apart after use. I bought this one alongside the WIKTA because they seemed like the best bang-for-buck after GEOMAG brand. This product blows the other two away in value. If you are like me, and craved more magnets as a kid and want to set your kid up right as well, buy this. Buy two. Ignore the box!

Great toy!
I bought this for a joined Christmas present for my 3 and 4 year old, not sure whether it was going to be a bust or something that they could really enjoy at such a young age. My 3 year old has a little trouble getting more complex structures built because of how strong the magnets are, but my 4 year old LOVES them. She has declared them her favorite toy of the holiday, and plays with them constantly. The magnets are of such great quality, and are built to last. Even though you are only given the little bars and the silver balls, the possibilities are endless. They come packaged great, so it's easy to tell if any pieces have gone missing. I would recommend this to anyone. More than just the average toy you find nowadays, where lights and sounds and flashy things replace quality and actual entertainment value!

Great product, strong magnets.. 108 pieces don't go as far as you think (buy two boxes!)
This set of magnetics building pieces is very good quality. I felt that the small magnets embedded in the ends of the plastic sticks were well anchored and didn't fear that they might pop out and be swallowed by my children or something worse. The would cling strongly to the set of steel balls that came with the kit. PROs: Well made, stout construction, strong attraction.. reasonable price compared to some of the other magnetic building sets out there. Many things can be built in free-play, good for developing those small noodles! CONs: They are deceivingly small, and if you only get one set, don't be surprised when your kid runs out of pieces as he is building his rendition of the death star, and asks you to order a second set. Just go ahead and do it now, get two boxes up front. Like all toys with small parts, they are easy to step on with bare feet in the middle of the night, they easily get sucked up into the vacuum cleaner, and the steel balls (non-magnetic) roll away from the play area and will hide under bookshelves and cabinets. And as always, there is a choking hazard (even more so with magnetic toys). Even though I thought my 5 and 7 yr olds were past doing something as silly as swallowing a toy, my wife and I received a frantic call the other night from the babysitter that our 7yr old had put one of the steel balls in her mouth and had accidentally swallowed it. Youch! Scared us, we spent 15 minutes on the phone with a nurse's line trying to figure out if we should bring her in to the clinic. Turns out, she swallowed the non-magnetic ball and it should pass through uninterrupted. Biggest problems come when you swallow more than one magnetic piece and they are attracted to each other, inside of you. Bad news. But as always, this threat is present with many toys comprised of small pieces. I hope you find my review helpful, best of luck shopping!!
