Mathletics app not available
We bought the Kindle on basis that my it is an 'Android' device and therefore suitable for use with Mathletics app. Unfortunately Amazon do not make Mathletics available so the device is pretty much defunct. Have bought something else which does work.Frankly disappointing from Amazon - as far as I know Mathletics is the de facto standard teaching aid within UK schools.

You can restrict use and set bedtimes.
This is exactly what we wanted for our lg. It’s brilliant - interactive & lots to learn with the apps. Interactive programs as you watch. We feel we don’t have to watch what our lg is on 100% as it’s restricted access to material you don’t want your child to interact with. You can set how long you want your child on the pad before it shuts down or if they have it at night before bed you can set a bedtime & it’s turns off. They can turn it on but they can’t access it without a pin. Result. Our lg isn’t old enough nor do I want her to take her pad to bed however when she gets older I can restrict it to books with a bedtime.Battery life is perfect, easy to use & touch screen is sensitive. We have a screen protector on ours but that doesn’t restrict sensitivity. Easy to set up too.

Great tablet!
Absolutely love this tab! Brought for my 3 year old daughter as a Christmas present. I’ve been playing around setting it up and downloading content for her all evening. I’m an Apple user and was a bit dubious- needn’t have worried! It’s great! Highly recommended. Oh and for people worrying about YouTube - I can’t seem to download the real YouTube kids app anywhere, but have downloaded the original YouTube app and Netflix etc and given her account permission - so it can be done.

Awful!
Awful. Bought 2 for my daughters. One has been replaced twice the other once and we still have the same problem. Error message “oops something went wrong” which then freezes the whole tablet. Tried to get my money back after 3 replacements but no apparently amazon like to trap their customers

2-year worry-free guarantee is very worrying
All I did is stress and worry when trying to change the kindle after it broke after 14 months. There is no link on the Amazon website to change it, instead you have to deal directly with customer services. They hide away the contact details and when you find it the process is a nightmare. The device is average, wouldn't buy again. It's brand damaging for Amazon!

Brilliant
Great little tablet for my 5 yr old, restrictions make it much easier and no adverts!I also love the fact you can switch to adult mode which is like the normal fire. Cover, insurance and year long subscription extra bonuses.

Firing Line
We purchased this as an upgrade from a 7 inch Kindle Fire after 2½ years of constant use. The tablet is set up for use by an adult as a normal Kindle tablet but when the Kids Unlimited app is running the tablet becomes kid friendly. The Kids Unlimited operating system is fantastic as it can be controlled using a phone. The bedtime settings and content can be set and usage can be monitored. Kids have access to a huge range of age appropriate apps, books and TV programs. Feature films can be shared, but they need to be purchased on Amazon. Because it can be blocked or switched off with a phone tap, it can be used to discipline bad behaviour too - one threat of removal of tablet time does the job! It is all very easy to set up, but will usually need updates and a full charge before use.The only negative is my difficulty setting up music on the new tablet. We used to use the Rocket app, but it doesn’t recognise the SD card anymore. As a teacher who deals with issues linked with unmonitored internet access on a daily basis, this is highly recommended and great value for money!

Great first tablet.
Bought for our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter for Christmas for car journeys. I won't go into details about pros and cons of this device as they are already stated in reviews and we weighed them up before purchase. We chose this because It may be accidentally broken due to the nature of toddlers and amazon kids policy is very appealing as are parental controls and Amazon kids free for a year. I definitely wouldn't let her use an ipad or samsung at this age, even with a protective case on and parental controls. As this will be a Christmas gift we have set it up before hand and all works well and as expected.Update: thought I'd update as this was given as a gift from Santa and our granddaughter has now been using this for week. When she first received it she was able to figure it out straight away and has really got the hang of it and thoroughly enjoys using it. Not had any connectivity or battery issues so far. She only uses it for short periods as she loves to play with her toys rather than be on tablet but it has been great for short periods like having a family meal and keeping her entertained. Content is perfect for her age group and we've enjoyed some of the educational apps. Already thinking about upgrading to kids fire 10 next year.
