How to Make Hawaiian Ribbon Lei: A Step-by-Step Guide

I’d hoped this would have more braided lei types, but nearly all require some sewing. The steps are very well photographed and described!

I'm Hawaiian by birth, but I live in Wisconsin now. Nothing irritates me faster than mass produced, watered down versions of someones cultural history. I wanted to incorporate leis into my wedding, as I have had one at every graduation and my family members all had them at their wedding, but I didn't want carnation leis and real flowers were cost prohibitive. The patterns in this book offer a good variety, turn out a good looking product and are relatively easy to make. If you're dedicated (or have help) you can turn out a whole wedding party for a reasonable and realistic amount and have your gifts to them all in one shot.

I bought this book because I wanted to make money leis for my friends for bithdays. Some of the other books have a lot of designs that require crocheting, which I don't do, so this book was wonderful because none of the designs require crocheting. I have been able to find the materials for most of the leis and I've made a few of the designs. I feel confident that I can make most of them. The book has very good pictures to illustrate the steps and the instructions make sense.

I purchased two books to make leis for my daughter's high school graduation. She loved them as did her best friend who I made two leis for as well! Some instructions were a bit too intense for me but the leis that I wanted were relatively easy.

Loved this book. It's great for a beginner. The designs vary from easy to more time consuming but no one can argue that the end product isn't beautiful!

We bought this book to make our own leis. Once you're able to locate inexpensive ribbon (say, on ebay), the cost savings of making your own, personalized leis can be realized. It took us some practice to figure out how to make the leis well. We might sell some on ebay if we get a chance!
