Best I've seen in a long time!
I have completely fallen in love with this show! It's very well done, great acting, sets and costumes, but most importantly the storyline is so exciting and interesting. Set in Poland during the WWII nazi occupation (and early soviet occupation), it mainly focuses on the lives of four young men who are part of the resistance, but the show also gives insight into the life of people in the ghetto, the women in resistance, doctors at the hospital, the nazi officers and later also the soviets. There are plenty of heroes and villains, but also many characters in the grey zone who are faced with impossible choices and circumstances of whether to help themselves, help their loved ones or their country. Words can't express how impressed I am with this show. It's in Polish but the subtitles are generally good (not excellent) so it's no problem understanding what's going on. So yeah, well done Poland and thanks for sharing this part of your history!

Heroic story of resistance
Á brilliant gripping series telling the story of Polish resistance against nazi occupation in Warsaw, it doesn't flinch on exposing the utter brutality of those times. One family lives inside the Ghetto so there is a graphic view of life there. The Nazi characters are there in all their horror and rivalries, together with the informers and spies they manage to recruit. But most of all, there is a heroic story of mass resistance on different levels, a story that never emerged clearly after the war, due to the Soviet occupation. Proud to be half Polish.

Edge-of-the-seat drama
This wartime series, set in Poland, is quite brilliant. The production standards are second to none, the storylines are compelling, and the acting superb. Every card in the pack is a winner, so it seems a little unfair when I single out two performances for special mention. Katarzyna Gniewkowska's portrayal of Maria, the mother of two of the underground fighters and wife of another, is extraordinary. Her journey, in some ways, is the most circuitous of the many riveting personal tales told here, and Gniewkowska's emotional range as an actress is so wide she is able to put the viewer in direct touch with the raw feelings of her character as she confronts life's dangers (and fleeting joys) under the Nazis. Piotr Adamczyk plays Lars Rainer, a Gestapo senior officer in Warsaw. One of the reasons why this series stands out from others is that it presents German characters of complexity and ambiguity. Adamsczyk's Rainer is one of the most interesting fictional wartime characters I have ever seen created on film/tape of the 'dreaded Hun'. He is some actor! I notice that Scottish TV has been smart enough to pick up this series. Would that more foreign broadcasters did. The English subtitles, optional on each disc, are good, although punctuation (e.g. apostrophes) disappears from Series IV, making things a little difficult occasionally. There is a lot of graphic violence (even 'blood' on the camera lens in one shootout), so those who are disinclined to watch such things should beware. But for a fictionalised glimpse into Occupied Europe 1939-1945, this series beats anything I have seen before, either in film or on television.

Polish Resistance War Drama - Excellent
I was very surprised by how good this Polish series was on the WW2 in Poland and its aftermath. The script and acting and the overall production were excellent. On a par with the BBC on historical dramas. Can't recommend highly enough for those who enjoy dramas about the resistance and the war. In Polish with English sub titles, but don't let that put you off. Well worth the money.

Addictive watching
Received this a birthday present from my husband, having already watched on tv here in UK. Brilliant series, so well written about little known history in Poland during WWII and the uprising. Would love another series to find out more and the characters final fates.
