I then clean it out - in particular the material inside that the good bacteria grows on - and place it in the garage to dry out for a few weeks. I then take it down into the cellar for the winter. I know of no way of winterizing it in place and leaving it ourside for the winter. The water will freeze and I wouldn't want to add even "non-toxic" anti-freeze to any pond equipment. Hope that helps. **Q: I still need a pump for this right?** A: Yes you do. I use a Tetrapond DHP4200 Debris Handling Pump. Don't use a pump stronger then that. **Q: am going to buy the BP2500.
