Nutrition and Physical Degeneration: A Comparison of Primitive and Modern Diets and Their Effects (Hardback)

Important Book, but Beware Kindle Edition
I HIGHLY recommend this book. But not the Kindle edition. See below. Originally published 1939, this book has been called one of the most important books of the 20th century, because it preserves knowledge that would otherwise have been lost after WWII.The big problem with the Kindle edition is the tiny size of the photos. The 134 photos, each originally worth on average a thousand words (approx value: 134,000 words, or roughly once again the value of the book itself, which is 136,665 words), are so tiny on the Kindle as to be virtually useless. Much was lost in translation to digital.Wonderful book; everyone should read it.

Important for soon to be parents
Great information. Physical degeneration has occurred as a result of modern diets that don’t provide the same amount of vitamins, minerals, body building and regenerative materials as traditional diets. What’s more is that the human body needs the right mix of foods to be able to effectively absorb the needed vitamins and minerals, and this mix is missing for many moderns. For example, some vitamins need animal fat to be absorbed. Our diets today are unbalanced and we give think of food more as energy (calories) than as regenerative, body building material. Primitive tribes thought of food in the later way and made great efforts to obtain certain needed foods. The effects of physical degeneration can be seen in just one generation after adopting the modern diet. Dr. Price shows many examples of native peoples before and after adopting modern diets, even comparisons between siblings, and the images are striking. Therefore, it is important for soon to be parents to strive to obtain the best nutrition possible. Nutritional decencies in the parents, even at the time of conception, can result in malformed children. My main complaint is that there are many typos and the pictures could be better quality, at least in this edition.

Specialist's book
This book was published about eighty years ago. In my opinion, as a retired physician with a particular interest in nutrition and pre written history humans, this is strictly for the specialist with those types of interest. Through my life the concepts of diet and heredity have fluctuated back and forth between the experts. This book gives a convincing argument for the cause of dental caries, facial and jaw deformity, and the need to focus on nutrients as opposed to energy foods. Much is clearly out of date, but still food for thought.

The Real Deal
The cover alone is compelling, but the content is even deeper. A book EVERYONE needs to read & study. It opens up windows & doors into many vital aspects of life-many of which have been suppressed, diverted & distracted for years.Hold onto your hat-this book this a life changer!

Shows how much are diets are everything!
It's sad to see how unhealthy we've become by eating processed food. We blame all our health problems (too many o list ) on old age. People of the past who ate their natural diet , no matter what it was experienced none of the health issues society deals with now. Processed food has des troyed are health so much so we just expect failing health now. Very sad we suffer so much to make corporations and the medical establishment very wealthy!

A classic everyone should read BEFORE having children
It's a beautiful edition of Dr. Price's classic book. It's about 100 years old, and still relevant but largely unknown. I would have given a lot for getting it in my hands before I had children.

Most beautiful book
I ordered the hard cover book and literally it's so beautiful that display it. The content of the book is as impressive as the exterior. Absolutely brilliant.

Not only interesting, but well written too.
This book solidifies the reality of what we are doing to our bodies with processed foods by following Dr Weston on his tour across the globe spending time with various people groups that have not been effected by the grocery store movement that was slowly becoming the American norm in his day. Though the main focus is the dental and obvious health damage being done, another neat aspect of the book is that he spends time describing each groups environment and cultural diversities. From geography to diets to farming techniques, it is an interesting book on more than one level that is sure to not only answer questions about "how those people do it", but will very likely inspire a "garden movement" in your own life. All in all, a good read for sure.

Excellent and insightful! A must read and IMPLEMENT
This book makes so much sense. It makes one a little angry that this VERY CLEAR explanation for the blight of modern civilisations had been around so long and yet we are still being fed LIES by ignorant doctors the world over.

Best Book on Nutrition you will ever read written 80 years ago.
Amazing book which highlights the damage the adoption of the western diet has done to indigenous populations of the world. Every nutritionist and Dentist should read this book.

Should be a Compulsory Text for Doctors & Dieticians!
This is a classic book! In my opinion this book should be a compulsory text for all doctors and dieticians. The problems we face now are not new, they originated over 150 years ago. WA Price not only showed the impact of processed food, but also how to reverse the damage. Unfortunately with the increased reliance on pharmaceuticals to treat disease, Type 2 Diabetes and obesity are rampant - poorly treated and poorly managed.

Important health information
this book shows us the most important principles to follow if we want to eat healthily. it is not a diet book, it does not tell us which foods we each should eat. it proves to us why it is important to eat unprocessed local in-season foods.
