Grind your mistake cones into crumbs for pie crusts!
This is a really simple waffle iron, so not much to it: it works very well for its intended purpose. I wish the plates were removable for cleaning, but can't have everything. I received it yesterday, so no long-term use data; if it breaks, I'll post an update. The cone maker heats up evenly, and the waffles come out perfect once you find a good recipe. I tried all three recipes that come with the iron, and in my hands, the chocolate cone worked the best. The first recipe makes waffles that are a bit too thick and heavy to my taste. I would not recommend to use all-purpose flour, and instead use cake flour for all recipes. Since I didn't have cake flour on hand, I mixed 1/3 corn starch with 2/3 AP flour and it worked much better than 100% AP flour. I used the corn starch/AP flour mixture for the second recipe plus an additional tbsp of oil, and the waffles came out very light, thin, and crunchy. Ditto the chocolate recipe, and it was the best: not as thin and lacy as the second recipe, but thinner and more pliable than the first recipe. I am not a big fan of chocolate, so no chocolate bias here. It seems the key is not to overmix the batter and get the correct consistency. My batter was a consistency of sour cream, it was not running from the spoon, I had to drop it with the help of another spoon and press it with the lid. Once the steam stops coming out, the waffle is pretty much done and ready to be rolled. My next projects will be unsweetened waffles, chocolate tacos, cannoli, and a mille feuille (Napoleon) cake.

SIMPLY FANTASTIC!!
I recently bought a really great ice cream machine and I happened to be browsing the internet and I saw this waffle cone maker. At first, I thought, "O.K., not another gadget!" but after reading several descriptions of the machine I decided to buy it. Thank God for going with my first mind!! This machine is incredible. After reading the brief instructions, I mixed up my batch of waffle cone mix (Chef's Choice) and set out on my adventure. Spraying a small amount of olive oil onto the heating pads (I always spray oil for the first time of each use) I poured my first coaster-sized amount of mix onto the machine; closed the lid and waited for the appropriate time to elapse. After opening the lid, out came this good smelling circular cone. Immediately, I lifted the cone using a rubber spatula; used the cone roller as indicated and Viola!! A great cone!! Not to mention the wonderful smell permeating my house!! It took me two tries to get the right amount of mix to make the perfect cone. I had some of the mix slide out the sides of the machine...no problem, just wipe it off. When making your cone fold a small amount at the bottom before you begin rolling the cone; or pinch the bottom of the cone when rolling so that your ice cream will not come out at the end; or put some melted chocolate, butterscotch or caramel at the bottom and let it get hard...a tasty plug!! The only thing I can think of that would make this one package complete is if the company would supply a rubber spatula, the towel (they mention using) or perhaps a pair of cotton gloves to help roll the cone...it is hot!! However, I really use just my hands. I get a better feel of the roller this way. And, please do not let these couple of items dissuade you from purchasing this machine. That would be terrible. We should all, hopefully, have a rubber spatula and towels!! Cleaning the machine is a breeze. The non-stick heating pads are greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this machine. What a great addition to any household that loves ice cream!! Be Blessed!!

Good cone maker and heats evenly, but...
I have used the Waffle Cone maker several times now and really like it. I've tried the recipes in the book and also made gluten free cones with great success. The waffle cone maker browns evenly and is easy to keep clean. The nonstick surface works perfectly. The instructions also include recipes you can try. We tried them and also a few premade mixes. All of the recipes worked well in the waffle cone maker. The latch on the front is a bit hard to latch and I worry about it breaking, but so far it has held up nicely and it latches very solid. My other issue with it being hard to latch is that my wife has a medical problem with her hands, so people with arthritis may want to check the use of this latch before using the cone maker to ensure it will be OK to use or if it will need to be returned. This latch is used to keep the lid down and spread out the batter across the heating surface, therefore it must be used or the cone thickness will not turn out properly. The plastic cone form works well and is sturdy, but it does take a bit of practice to get used to it. This is not a manufacturing problem, but rather just a personal technique skill to learn. The first time I tried to roll the cones, the waffle would just slide around on the cone form and would then crack. I tried using a prepackaged mix Chef's Choice Gourmet Waffle Cone Mix and the cones were a lot easier to roll and came out very nice. The casing of the waffle cone maker is built solidly. For this price range, I am impressed with the quality build. I cannot speak for the durability of the inside components, but I will update this review when I have used it for a long enough time to give a proper review of its life span. This has an adjustable "color" dial. This allows you to adjust how brown the cone will be. It is basically a timer adjustment for how long it wil wiat before telling you to remove the cones. This is a nice option to have and is similar to a how a toaster works. There are two lights on the unit to tell you when it is heated enough to add batter and when to remove the cooked cone. It only takes about two minutes to cook a cone. This cone maker is very easy to use and I would trust my grandchildren to use it on their own. So far I am very happy with it and I recommend it.

Makes the perfect waffle cones & waffle bowls.
Made the tastiest waffle cones at home, the smell of them cooking was worth it alone :) after making about 10 of them, this waffle maker paid for itself. The cone roller they give you is the perfect size but contains BPA, which they don’t tell you till you see the sticker on the box :( So I covered it in two layers of thick foil, couldn’t disappoint my kids. My advice is to get a decent wooden one. Which I’m hoping to find on Amazon. And practice making cones, I melted chocolate chips in a sandwich bag & poured it into the bottom of the cone to avoid leakage. I also made waffle bowls, (that a smeared melted chocolate on the bottom inside) IKEA little kids bowls were the perfect size I just sandwiched the waffle between 2 bowls, should work with any small bowls. Besides the cone roller, this waffle maker is awesome. I got a decent, simple recipe off the internet. Bakes up fast, and poof, just like the farm stand I’ve cream shops... at a fraction of the cost & there’s no line, no waiting ;) Waffle cone ingredients - $2 1/2 Gallon Ice Cream - $4 Smelling those waffle cones baking in your own kitchen - priceless

Love my waffle cones!
I have been wanting this waffle maker but it is a little difficult to use, maybe my machine has a defect, but the lid will not stay up when I am putting the batter on and when I take the waffle out I have to hold it up or it falls back down. Would really appreciate if someone would let me know if mine is just defective so I can get an exchange. Anyhow, I didn't order the mix but made my own from the recipe booklet that came with the maker and have been having trouble with the rolling of the cone. I have tried several different ways but my cones keep splitting and cracking. I'm guessing the batter is lacking in moisture or the altitude here in Colorado is not helping. I am persistent and will find my way eventually. Using this machine fills my house with the sweet smells of a summer ice cream shop, I love it! *UPDATED* I did exchange my maker for another and have had no issues with the lid, machine works great and after a year of occasional use I have managed some great cone recipes that don't crack. I also found that wrapping and tucking the cone mold with a regular papertowel, makes it easier to roll the cone. I also used white cotton gloves (cheap at Walmart pharmacy) so I don't burn my hands. This waffle cone maker is great!

chefs choice 838 waffle cone express ice cream cone maker
We bought this as a Fathers day gift. It has been used a lot since then. The whole family enjoys this and it is one product that does a very nice job in producing the best waffle cones. Make sure when forming your cone you do ave the bottom of the cone sealed this is very important to prevent dripping of the ice cream from the cone. At first we had the setting to low and they came out pretty light then with adjustments the setting is on 4 and it works perfect for us. Actually when it was lighter, it was a very yummy cookie(if you did not form it into a cone) and a few of the family liked it lighter. This makes a scrumptious waffle cone that you can also make a lot of them and store them in a plastic container. Nice for an evening treat!

Fantastic!
I am such a busy little baker; it's mostly to relieve stress or just to keep busy during the summer. After having such a great waffle cone in Waikiki this summer at Lappert's Ice Cream, I was inspired to make some cones on my own. I saw this same item on Bed Bath and Beyond's website for $10.00 more (49.99). Of course, I came to Amazon and found it for 39.99 and I got free shipping! Pros: Extremely easy to use. It has to do a cycle first (details in the directions), but it's quickly ready to go. Use a little cooking spray so that you can easily remove the cone. Once you have ladled on the batter, close, latch and wait. After your first waffle cone, you can easily determine what number it should be on. The higher the number, the darker the cone. This item also comes with a tool that you can utilize to properly shape your waffle cone. Remember that you are dealing with an item that comes off of a hot object, but take your time and you will soon get the hang of it. You have to work fast, but each cone (unless you get it perfect the first time) gets better until yours look just like those in an ice cream shop. By the way, it's easy to clean. Use a damp cloth to wipe it. Also, don't worry if you put a little too much; It comes off the side and you can trim it/let the catcher handle it. Con: I love this product, but I was not impressed with one of the waffle cone recipes that it provided. In fact, the recipe was extremely heavy, and I had to thin it out to create the right level of thickness for the cone. I recommend trying another waffle cone recipe or altering (as I did) what is provided to get the right cone.

Buy something another rather than this
Uneven baking, waffle cones are left raw n undone at the middle core portion and the edges r heavily burnt, not a cost effective product, much cheaper n worthy products r available
