This is an automatic or “OTF“ scalpel blade holder. It is very small, about 3 inches long. The body is made of metal, either aluminum or a nickel alloy, I can’t tell. It is very easy to actuate, both open and closed. It has a hole for a keychain or lanyard, and I can see it having a lot of utility for opening packages or letters. If you have other detailed needs that a scalp blade is required, I’m sure this could do the trick. It came with a package of replacement blades, but it can take any scalpel blade really. It did misfire one time while I was using it (see photo) but all I had to do was carefully pinch the blade with my fingertips and pull it all the way out. It locked into place and then I was able to use it normally. It’s extremely light, however I would be wary of using it as a keychain knife due to the fact that it could be activated in your pocket and that would be very bad. More likely it will be something that sits on my desk at home as a letter opener. I may also employ it in crafting. However, for crafting, I prefer a more traditional handle so that I can choke up nearer to the blade. It’s certainly a novelty and you may like it simply because of the cool factor. It is a very fidgety. I highly recommend you consider the laws of your state before you order this item.

The aluminum alloy handle feels sturdy in my hand. Its anti-skid pattern provides a secure grip during use. Extending and retracting the blade is simple with the slider button. This tool fits comfortably in my pocket thanks to its compact size and clip. It weighs only 0.7 oz and carries like a standard credit card. I like the bright orange color and the high tech dual action mechanism. The included ten surgical blades are incredibly sharp and cut through boxes easily. However, the blade release mechanism can be finicky if I apply too much force. For $22 bucks, this provides solid value and durability. I use it daily for small cutting tasks around the house. This retractable knife is a reliable and lightweight tool for everyday carry.
