Great brush, does the job
This brush did a great job cleaning out my 6 inch diameter stainless steel flue. I got on the roof and pushed the brush down the chimney into the stove and pulled it back up again a total of three times. It knocked out quite a bit a creosote. Some people here mentioned the bristles being stiff, which is true, but they clean better that way. I've only used it once so far, but I get the impression that the bristles should last for many years. You basically can't even tell from just looking at the brush that I even used it. Using this brush to clean the chimney myself is a much better use of time and money than paying a chimney sweep to come out a couple times a year.

Works great for double walled 6-inch stove pipe. It's not rocket science...
I purchased this to clean out some 6-inch double-wall stove pipe. This is a poly (plastic) brush and thus won't (shouldn't) scratch the inside lining of the stove pipe. Considering how expensive double-wall stove pipe is these days...best not to damage it. The end of this brush is 1/4 National Pipe Thread (NPT). If you want to make a run to your local hardware store, you can buy a cheap PVC adapter to make this work with with 1/2" PVC pipe, i.e. 1/4" NPT female to 1/2" NPT (male or female...whatever floats your boat). Anyway, I'm uber cheap so I rigged my own pole out of a 4' piece of 1/2" diameter oak dowel collecting dust in my garage. I drilled and tapped the dowel at one end and then screwed in the brush. Done! Anyway, it was a tight fit inside (that's what she said...sorry...it's late and I'm drinking). Because it was so tight, I could only clean in one direction - push in but not pull out (giggle). Two or three passes with a little bit of twisting cleaned several seasons worth of creosote. I could even see glint of stainless steel again. And no...I didn't use any water based cleaner. I did it dry, which is probably a good idea unless you have the patience to dry it all out. I don't. Like I said in my title, it's not rocket science so I don't really know how you screw this up.

stiff bristle
works great to snake my 20' wood stove chimney. bristles are stiff and flex just enough. cleans the walls of the pipe very well

Does the job alright!
Talk about stiff; and given the job it's designed for you can understand the need, but....as a designer myself, I can tell you the mftr. could easily reduce the stiffness in these bristles down about 15% and the product would be great. Currently it is so stiff that it is extremely difficult to force down your chimney pipe, and almost impossible to turn by hand; the next time I use it I will have to consider hooking the end up to my 1/2" drill and run at very low speed. If you do attempt this, be sure your drill is set to the proper direction or you will disassemble the brush inside your chimney, then you will really have a problem. Good product overall for the money.

Poly Chimney Brush
We used this brush a couple of days ago to clean a strait 16 - 17 ft. wood-stove pipe. We chose poly over metal bristles as not to scratch the inside. It is a great sturdy brush and was wound tightly. Since it was a strait shot from roof to the bottom clean-out access, my husband made a rod out of 2 10-ft' 1/2" round pvc pipes screwed together with pvc connections. Screwed to the bottom was a 1/2" to a 1/4" galvanized pipe reducer which the bristle brush was screwed into. We cleaned from the top of the roof instead of from the bottom. We chose the pvc pipes so we wouldn't have problems with connections or broken rods. We were able to look from the inside of the pipe to see how good a job it did, and it did a great job. The brush was pushed down from the top all the way to the bottom, then pulled back all the way up to the top. A scrubbing action was not possible. The brush wouldn't lets us go up and down. The brush would only let us go down one direction until it came out the bottom. Then we wee able to pull it back up the other direction till free at the top. We pulled apart the chimney pipe from inside the house, took them outside and cleaned them. We cleaned the curved section with a bristle hand brush. I would reccomend using disposable gloves and a breathing mask as the pvc pipe gets black and some dust can blow up at you. We sure needed a cleaning for our pipe, and now we feel comfortable lighting a fire in the stove now!

Does the job, seems well made
After watching a chimney sweep clean my wood stove pipe I knew I could do it myself. For less than the price of one chimney sweep visit I bought this brush (and the necessary fiberglass rods). The trickiest part is disassembling the wood stove pipe, which is theoretically simple but creosote deposits make it somewhat challenging to "unglue". While the first time was educational and the second time was much easier. This brush cleans the pipe well with only a couple passes. After two uses it is still as new so I expect it to last many years.
