Fits Hole Size:1 Inches | Size:1" | Grit Type:120 | Item Length String:8 Inches | Shank Diameter:0.220 Inches | Maximum Rotational Speed:800 RPM | Part Number:BC10012 The Flex-Hone® tool was originally created by Brush Research Manufacturing to deglaze cylinder walls in automotive applications. Brush Research embraced the benefits of a plateau finish and pioneered the concept of plateau honing culminating in the introduction of the Flex-Hone tool in 1972. The Flex-Hone has gained many nicknames over the years and including ball hone, ball style hone, flexihone, dingleberry hone, bead brush, glaze breaker and glaze buster. Flexible honing with the Flex-Hone tool produces an oil holding cross hatch pattern and a true plateau finish free of cut, torn and folded metal. Any type or size of cylinder can benefit from the Flex-Hone®. These abrasive bead style brushes are produced in standard diameters from 4mm to 36 inches. Nine abrasive types are offered including silicon carbide, aluminum oxide, boron carbide and diamond allowing the tool to be tailored to finish any base material. A choice of 11 different grit selections are available for precise control of finish parameters. The elimination of peaks results in rapid ring seating, better oil control, reduced seepage in hydraulic and pneumatic applications and provides better seal performance and longer seal life. Successful applications include firearm chambers, shotgun barrels, musical instruments, combustion chambers, air compressors, pumps, valve bodies, valve guides, brake cylinders, wheel cylinders and the list goes on and on. Flex-Hone® tools are also very effective for deburring cross drilled holes, port radiusing and edge blending. Because of its unique construction, the Flex-Hone is self-centering, self-aligning, and self-compensating for wear so it does not require an elaborate set-up or special training. Deburring can be effectively automated and combined in the machining process to allow a complete cylinder finish in one operation or it can be employed as a secondary operation with equal results.

One of my favorite engine rebuild tools!
This worked great for honing my 1972 Honda CB350F cylinders. Easy for first timers and cleans up all of the dark spots where the piston rings were stuck and sat for decades. I used a hand drill but you can also use a drill press if you have one. One great tip is to have the drill on at a low speed while you slide the hone tool in and out very swift motion. This will give it the perfect 45° cross hatching, otherwise you may get a more acute angle of cross hatching. Don't forget to use lubrication as well, I used Marvel Mystery oil which worked great.

Easy to use and very effective
Easiest hone in the world to use. It should be within 1/8" of your bore size (LARGER, not smaller). If you're used to flat stone hones, bear in mind that this hone must be TURNING when you insert it in the bore. Will deglaze any cylinder, even if it worn unevenly. Even works on 2-cycle cylinders, but remember it must be within 1/8" of your bore size or the stones will catch on the ports, fracture, and otherwise misbehave. A bonus for 2-cycle cylinders is it puts a nice little radius on the edge of the ports, eliminating the step of breaking the edge.

Did exactly what I wanted
I used this to clean up a hole used for an outboard motor travel pin that had seized. It cleaned out all the corrosion and gave me a nice clean hole in which to insert the bearing sleeve with around ten passes. Very important to get exactly the right size though. I chose one just a smidgen larger than the hole diameter.

Works Amazingly, but a "One Time Use" Product
Once the right size was ordered, this worked perfectly to hone out the cylinder of my yz85 motor. The results were stunning after carefully following instructions on how to use the attachment. Unfortunately while the cylinder that this was used for is perfect, smooth, and flawless-- the hone cannot be used again. So four stars for kind of a pricey tool that is only for one-time use, but for the difference it makes in polishing and boring out a motor it was worth it!

Easy to use.
This is extremely easy to use. It did a perfect job of cleaning up a cylinder on a lawnmower. Use it at a low speed and use quick back and forth strokes for perfect cross hatching. I used 10w-30 oil for lube.My cylinder bore was .05" inches bigger than flex hone recommended for a 2 1/2 inch hone. That's fine, it's over sized anyway. No need to go one size up on such a small difference. It is a little over priced, but considering how easy it is to use that might be worth it.

I think in both cases I would have been better served in not following the instructions and buying the ...
If you are only a tiny bit over the nominal size do not follow the instructions and go up one size. They are oversized to begin with (my 1 1/8" hone being a few thousandths shy of 1 1/4").I bought a 1 1/8" hone to remove the seam from 1" SCH40 pipe and open it up from 1.03 to 1.06" so that 3/4" pipe will telescope in structural applications. I also intended to use it to open up 25mm aluminum C-cell flashlight tubes to fit 26mm LiFePO4 cells (1.026"). I am hoping that after breaking in the hone on the steel pipe I will be able to start it in the aluminum tube without damaging the end. I think in both cases I would have been better served in not following the instructions and buying the 1" hone instead.

Needed to ream out a bicycle seat post receiver - worked great
After trying everything to get my new seat post into the receiver on a 1952 bicycle - because of rust and long time caked grease and dirt, I decided to give this a try. In less than a 2 minutes, everything was operational.Great product, priced right and delivered quickly.

Brilliant for brake/clutch master cylinders!!!
So I have this 1982 Honda Magna I recently acquired which needs some love to get back on the road. Apparently the previous owner dropped the bike while loading it on a trailer, decided not to fix it and let it sit for a few years. The sight glass was busted on the clutch master cylinder so the fluids drained out of the main chamber and after a few years of sitting, the rest of the fluid turned into some kind of green alien substance...After stripping some screws trying to get the thing took apart, I discovered the piston was quite stuck in the chamber - which required me to drill through the top of the piston, insert a metal screw and pry the b***h out with a crowbar. What I found in the chamber was nothing short of horrific - a nice thick black coating of whatever the brake fluid turned into after all these years. It looked like carbon, and it was impossible to get scrubbed out with brass bore cleaners or soaked out with anything I had available (which is a lot of stuff).I searched around for potential replacements on eBay, but there was nothing that looked like it would be a 'sure buy' that would work - especially for the money these people were asking. So, I have to make this work...Eventually I gave up on the fruitless manual labor and tried to find another solution. Stumbled across 'honing engine cylinder' and started looking for really small honing tools (5/8" or 16 mm). Found this, got it today, attached it to my drill, doused the cylinder and this tool with brake fluid for lubrication and let it go to work....Freaking awesome results!!!! I got the 120 grit one, so once I get the OEM rebuild kit here, I will do a test fit and if things look snug, I will get the 320 grit brush and finish it up.Very happy to finally be able to move past the roadblock and get onto other stuff on this bike!!!

sizing is not accurate
Be warned this may say 18mm but the actual diameter as measured is at 20mm. It has to compress down to 18mm which is really tight in a 18mm bore. The stems on the ball are very stiff. Having said that it will take off more material than you want if just cleaning a bore. If you want a better fit get a size smaller than your actual hole size.

Dont buy form here
I got this hone because it was listed as a 64mm hone to my suprises it didnt fit my 64mm bore in my cylinder or match the size of my piston... so I go looking on the pack and as you can see theres a 64mm sticker but if you lift up to the original sticker it says it's a 73mm..... every unfortunate that Amazon would do this I recommend this product just not bought here.
