Couldn't ask for much more for the price!
Great set for a beginner (or perhaps a master too)! I bought these because they look very similar to a second hand set of Japanese chisels I purchased on ebay which turned out to be fantastic. These are made in Tawain, and upon close inspection they are not up to the quality of the Japanese chisels, but for practical purposes, at least in the short term, that is a non-factor because they cut very well, and even after doing some touch up on some very hard dense wood (possibly African Blackwood) they still have a great edge. These may not last as long as the japanese set, but if they break or become unusable, they are inexpensive to replace. They also come with a small sharpening stone which is a nice addition. They are excellent for very detailed work, but obviously you would want a different set for a larger carving. The one thing I find lacking in this style of chisel is the handle. They are functional, I have yet to break one, but for me the grip is uncomfortable, and I would prefer the shorter rounder handles on standard palm chisels. Definitely a nice addition, and if you are looking to try woodcarving this is a great set to see if you like it, with a much nicer edge than any of the other cheap sets I have found. Go for it!

Just the thing for cleaning up 3d prints
I have used just about everything you can think of to cleanup 3d prints: pipe deburring tools, scissors, sandpaper, angle clippers, craft knives, a scalpel, a sodering iron. The list goes on.These have replaced most of them. You will find these handy for all sorts of trimming and cleanup, from removing brims or supports, to cleaning out holes, even adding a bevel if need be. The only thing is a couple of them needed to be sharpened right out of the gate, though the included stone (which has a handy ridge for the curved tools) did the job nicely.

For the money? Stellar!
I am astonished when I read these negative reviews of this carving set. "Not for Hardwood" says one guy. Yea, that's what is says in the advertising. I thought if the item is exactly what the advertising says it is, that iss a GOOD thing... People break them, then give the set one star. Indeed, I found two reviews under two different signatures a year apart that were letter by letter identical; four sentences worth... hardly a co-incidence, I think. What the heck??But seriously, these little gems cost twelve dollars. There are TWELVE carving tools. That's a buck a tool. And you expected custom Gerber blades in the knives? These are carbon steel, excellent sharp little blades. Look at them, they are quite thin and very hard; they'll break! No surprises there.I'm doing some modifications to a walnut wood stock, the wood is pretty hard, but I use these cheapy knives because with a little care they'll pull a nice long curl out of the wood. Lot's of nice long, thin curls will get you where you want to go, just be easy on the tools and on your hands. Overall a good little delicate carving set. For the money? Stellar.

I would not recommend this set to someone who would like to try ...
I would not recommend this set to someone who would like to try wood carving for the first time. I bought these as well as a Flex Cut set to use in a Woodcarving class. This set was very visible poorly made. The edges of most of the blades were sloppy and not straight at all. This kit also comes with a grinding stone, which you should not use on them because it will ruin them. I bought a Slip Strop http://www.amazon.com/Flexcut-Tool-PW12-SlipStrop-Polish/dp/B000ZRT75M/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1433298186&sr=1-1&keywords=Flex+Cut for my Flex Cut set, and used it on this Yasutomo set and they sharpened nicely and were actually functional for once in their poor existence. The handles of these tools are pretty badly designed and caused my hands to cramp after just a few minutes of using them because they have no real grip to them, they are too long, and they are awkward to hold and get a good angle to carve with. I used these tools because they weren't terrible and they actually carved into the MDF particle board I was using them on pretty easily after I sharpened them with my Slip Strop. If you can afford it I would suggest that you buy yourself some nice Flex Cut http://www.amazon.com/FLEXCUT-Carving-Kit-11-Piece/dp/B000ZUBE1Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1433298186&sr=1-2&keywords=Flex+Cut ,or Power Grip Tools http://www.amazon.com/Power-Carving-Tools-Seven-Piece/dp/B0037MI3K2. They are worth it if you enjoy carving things and making woodcuts for printmaking.

Excellent value/performance ratio!
I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of these carving tools. The profiles are true and the hardness of the steel is unbeatable. I purchased these for around $15 and now the price is $11 and change. That's unbelievable!I sharpened these on the DMT bench stones up to the 8000 mesh then finished with the Spiderco ultra fine. Then polished them with red rouge with a Dremel and small buffing wheel. Mirror finish and cuts like a dream! As with all hardwoods, you must make many small cuts. Works great for small works like jewelry boxes or light switch covers. I needed these to decorate a cup holder I made for a set of dog steps. I couldn't be happier with the size and convenience.
