This start box can support about 3 pounds of bees which is roughly around 10,000 bees. You will need to add additional boxes on top as the bees start building brood and honey.

No, this hive does not include a feeder, but I would recommend this product to purchase. I purchased the Mann Lake 10 Frame Top Feeder w/Super Painted, and that works great with the HK-170.

I would like this unit for my backyard. What kind of bees recommended? Close neighbors and a pet.

Any bee can be aggressive at times. The best for you will probably be Italian Bees. They tend to me really calm. Face you bees in an open area away from high traffic areas. Make sue you keep a good water supply close so they don't end up watering at your neighbors swimming pool or pet waters. Good luck. You are in for a pleasant ride.
