Outstanding portable compressor kit.
This is an outstanding compressor. The pump is smaller than I thought, but incredibly powerful, rock solid, and very well made. I used the DC cord plugged in to the cigar lighter outlet while my Jeep Patriot was running - I get no power out of that outlet when the vehicle is shut down. The cord was perfectly long enough to walk around to all four tires out of the front passenger door, even when that door was closed. The indicator is quite accurate when it is running while attached to the valve stem of the tire being filled, a well lit bar scale. The LED light is quite bright and stays on while the pump is connected to the power source. The valve stem adaptor fit perfectly, screwed on precisely and effortlessly, and allowed little to no air to escape when attaching and detaching. I always check pressure with my own gauge to get the level precisely where I want it. The bag is perfect. I can fit a few items in the inner pouch of the bag and the bright orange is quite helpful in low light. I keep this compressor in the cargo organizer I have in the rear of the vehicle all the time, along with a Clore ES5000 jump starter secured there as well, which will run this pump with no problem if I chose to shut the vehicle off. Also, no problems with the pump's fuse or the vehicle's fuse so far. Excellent product.

Well made, sturdy compressor!
I really like this Viair 77P compressor. It replaced a smaller compressor I’ve had for years that was okay but starting to get weak and I was looking for something better. This air compressor impressed me because it is sturdy and well made. It seems like the company really tried to make this a quality product. The air nozzle, tubing, wires, and everything just has a nice, heavy duty feel to them. I was going to buy the model with the press-on nozzle but because of the reviews I bought this model with the screw-on nozzle instead. I’m glad I did because it works great, the nozzle is thicker, screws on quickly with a good seal, and detaches quickly with very little loss of air from the tire. The included case was a nice touch as well. You won’t fit a lot of extras in there but it is the perfect size for the compressor. I tuck the air tubing in back of the compressor and the power wire in front and it fits just right. It pumps up my truck tires almost twice as fast as my old compressor and it is more quiet also.

Put 10 PSI in 8 tires and it hardly got warm.
(Reviewing after first use)Pro/Con list below.I hate the crummy air machines you find as gas stations so I have been neglecting my tires for a while so when the Sweethome leaked that this is going to be their pick and it was on sale I made the jump. The instructions and the body of the product have these dire warnings about the product getting hot and burning you but I took the compressor on its maiden voyage and put 10 PSI in each of my Honda's tires AND my wife's Volvo's tires and the body was hardly warm to the touch.Pros- Nozzle screws onto tire valve using the same threads as the valve cap- Backlit PSI gauge on body- PSI gauge is accurate prior to turning the product on (see con list*). I checked its result against a dollar store tire gauge and they lined up every time.- Not half as loud as I was expecting (which is good because the air hose is only about 3 ft long)- Stays put while on- Strong enough to fill tires to at least 40 PSI- About the size of a coke can with a handle and when packed up in the bag about the size of a small lunch box- Does not get hotCons- Cord is not long enough to reach every tire on both sides of the vehicle without threading the cord back through the interior to the other side of the car- *While on, and after the product has been turned off, the PSI gauge is consistently 4 PSI too high until the nozzle is unscrewed until the gauge returns to zero and then screwed back on. This makes hitting the recommended PSI for your tires a bit of a guessing game where you have to ballpark it, unscrew, and then rescrew 2-3 times to fill up a tire properly.

Does the job when and where you need to
I wanted to wait a few months before reviewing this (always wondered why anyone would review something they just received). I've used this several times this year and it hasn't failed me yet. Saved my (van) tail when I was a bit overloaded with mulch - I was able to quickly and easily get the back tires back up to pressure and I was on my way.The light doesn't seem like a big deal but comes in very handy. The lighted gauge is easy to read and accurate (checked it several times - still right on the money). The quick release (non screw on) fitting is working well. Activates the valve consistently and seals well going on. Have to wiggle it a bit to get it off but air loss is negligible. Power cord is more than long enough, passed through driver and passenger side windows, to get to all four tires. Quick set up: Start car, pass plug through window, plug it in, connect to tire, flip switch, watch gauge, flip switch, disconnect from tire, unplug, toss (gently :-)) into trunk, head out. Couldn't be simplerNo extra bells and whistles that just gum things up. Basically only meant to do one thing - inflate stuff, and it does it really really well.

Fast, quiet, and easy to use.
I was originally going to purchase the clip on version of this compressor but after reading some reviews on how fiddly the clip on valve was I decided to try this screw on version. Very glad I did as it's easier than I thought it would be to attach and no guessing if it was attached correctly. I didn't have any problems with the metal body becoming untouchable due to heat but I did find the hose seems to get very hot on larger tires. Works great on smaller car tires but can take a bit on larger tires. Pressure gauge is accurate and easy to read. Small annoyance for me would be that the backlight on the gauge and work light turn on immediately when the unit is plugged in and there's no switch to turn them on/off. Would have preferred a switch/button to turn them on/off. The power cable did seem to get warm when left bundled up. Unwrapping it helped the cable not get as hot. The bag isn't premium but doesn't feel like it's going to rip in half when using the zipper like with cheaper products.

Sorry about this review, but...
Excellent build quality. It worked great for about the 4 times that it was used over 3 years. But now it does not work at all. The light does not power on when it is connected to 12v source, and it does not turn on. I cannot find a fuse. The unit is sealed tight, so cannot troubleshoot the issue. Too bad. This product has great reviews, but given its very limited use, this did not work out for me at all.Feb 2, 2022 UpdateChanged the rating to excellent. Via a chat with Viair representative, it was uncovered that the socket had somehow come apart and that parts were either missing or lost. These were found at the bottom of the handy storage bag, reassembled, and the compressor is once again fully operational!

I may even begin to enjoy the process of checking my tyres!
Having prematurely worn down one of my van tyres by running it several pounds underinflated, mainly due to the fact that it's frequently a bind trying to get access to garage airlines on busy forecourts; I decided it was time to get a portable 12volt tyre inflator to carry around, and check my tyres more often. Well I went through all the usual routes but found only cheap junk, of which I have, over the years, watched people being frustrated by. I was determined to find a product that would comfortable inflate tyres requiring 3.5bar/50psi and run off a standard 12volt 15/16amp cigar lighter power point. I also wanted something that I could count on for at least the next ten years, so good build quality was a must.I chose the Viair 77P kit. This is a USA designed product but typically, is currently made in China. However, on close inspection, this still looks and feels like a high-quality product. This compact compressor is capable of 5.5bar/80psi. With an insulated carry handle [incorporating a pressure gauge], essential as electric motors and compressors get hot. The robust yet very flexible rubber air-hose, is of generous length given that with the long power lead, you can comfortably position the unit close to all wheels with ease. This particular model has a screw on adaptor for attaching to the tyre valve; reviews suggest this works best. If you prefer a lever clamp style fixing, this is available on the 78P. Included in the kit are three nozzles, for inflating airbeds and footballs etc. The whole kit comes in a very good quality, canvas carry case; 9L x 5w x 6T inches [230 x 130 x 152mm]. Approx. 5.5lbs [2.5kg].So how does it perform in practice? The manufacturers recommend that the vehicle engine should be running while the compressor is in use. This not only boosts the speed that the compressor runs at, it also ensures you will not flatten your battery: So, with engine running, plug in to your 12volt supply, attach the air-hose to the valve, then switch on the pump. I tried it out on a typical saloon car [BMW] tyre which was down to 20psi, it took about two minutes to inflate this to 42psi. The compressor was quiet, almost inaudible at a distance of 35 feet. There was very little vibration, so it did not scuttle about. After such a short duration, the body of the machine barely became warm. [maximum duty cycle is stated as 30 minutes continuous running]. The horizontal analogue pressure gauge, bar/psi, is very easy to read as it is illuminated. While pumping, the pressure indicated is slightly higher than final tyre pressure. To determine actual pressure, you just turn off the pump, and the gauge settles down about 2psi. I double checked the tyre pressure with my manual tyre gauge and this agreed to within a pound. The screw on air-hose proved to be a very good choice as it fits extremely securely and leaks no air. At first it caught me out as it seemed to not want to engage with the valve threads but then I realised that you have to push it on, while turning.NB. The power plug, which in itself is a notably well-made item, only engaged to a bare minimum in the BMW 12volt cigar lighter socket, and had to be double checked when at first it provided no power. Later, I tried the plug in my Citroen cigar lighter socket, and it engaged very positively and ten millimetres deeper, compared to the BMW. So it would seem that cigar lighters are not as standard as you might reasonably expect. All in all, I was very impressed with this piece of kit. Compared to other makes these are expensive, but the quality is well worth it, and I suggest that long term Viair will prove to be much better value for money. I may even begin to enjoy the process of checking my tyres! The Viair range offers 12volt and 24volt compressors, ranging from 4bar/60psi up to 10.5bar/150psi. The higher-pressure machines come with crocodile clips for direct connection to the battery, as 12volt 15/16amp outlets will not support the power drawn. It is worth the trouble to consider the maximum tyre sizes you may want to inflate before selecting which model to buy.

Great
Always wanted to have a compressor in my car. It's great. Small, fast and easy to work with. I never used the screw-on hose, but it's actually super easy. Gauge is not super accurate, but close enough.
