Good general overview
If you’re new to the southwest this is a great general overview for a large geographic area of coverage. However, I would get more park-specific information and maps to compliment once you have a rough itinerary in mind. The National Geographic maps are very useful once you learn all of the symbology. If you can find it the AAA “Indian Lands” map is awesome and amazingly locates many great spots off the beaten path after you’ve bagged the big five. The All Trails App is also a great user supported resource. Contribute if you can, leave no trace and pack out your poop/trash because there is no “they” to clean it up and “we” have to deal with the mess.

Gotta love Lonely Planet.
Lots of good info covering the very large Southwest. A must have if you’re planning a trip out west. But it really is worthwhile if you’re planning multiple trips or doing a grand tour of the southwest.

Great book for this region.
Great guide book. Lots of tips. Far better than AAA. Lacking a Rich Steve guide for the area (Rich, you need to travel in the US more), this is the best choice

No Colorado
I know Lonely Planet wants to sell the Colorado guide by itself, but any mention of the Southwest should include at least parts of Colorado. The content for the other states are typical Lonely Planet and provide a nice overview.
