The Essential Department Chair: A Comprehensive Desk Reference (Jossey-Bass Resources for Department Chairs)

I became a Dept. Chair recently and wanted to know more about this job. Bought a few books. This one is the best. It provides lots of food for thoughts. Every night I pick up a chapter to read. Many of the topics and examples from the book are exactly what I encountered during my work. It's comforting to know that I am not alone. Always good to tap into insights from another person who has more experiences in academic administration.

This is an easy read and provides great insight into the role of the department chair. It is organized in such a way that it will serve as an easy go-to book when different kinds of situations arise.
