The Emotional Intelligence Quick Book

Growing up in an atmosphere of anger to the point of physical abuse until the age of 14, you have to "relearn" how to relate on an emotionally healthy level. Although I have been married now for 21 years to a godly man who would give his life for me (twice the amount of time I lived in an abusive situation) I still stagger in saying & doing what is right (high EQ) when certain feelings surface.Travis Bradbury and Jean Greaves skillfully navigate emotions to put them into words-which can be a challenge for those of us who have seen violence as a method of communicating.

I’ve got soooo many highlights and notes. Great foundational information on EQ to give you in depth understanding to what EQ is and how EQ can be used to improve your decisions.

There is the only table in the book and you can't read it while using the Kindle version because the picture resolution is too weak. The link in the footnote doesn't work either. However, Julia West, author of the table, has the table on her website [...]

If you are new to the world of emotional intelligence this is an excellent book to start with. It is straight forward and the concepts are easy to grasp. Good book to have in your EI library.

Great book to help improve yourself. Great tips on how to better communicate with others and what the barriers are for yourself.

Hardly anyone is new to the idea of emotions or controlling one's emotions, however the categorization the authors use of emotional intelligence is useful as a tool for analyzing one's strengths and weaknesses in using one's emotions. The categorization has as four parts: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management. This is the biggest takeaway of the book. The rest of it is clarification or examples of what each category includes and how its important in personal situations.I have benefited from seeing people's behaviors through the lens of EQ. It helps explain not only my emotional strengths/weaknesses but also where other people have developed their emotional skills and where they are lacking.I only give it 3 stars because as useful as the categorization of emotional intelligence is (emotional intelligence really a misnomer, should be called emotional skill), there is no practical method for improving one's EQ provided by the book. The book itself is a quick read and doesn't go into much depth. Take the online assessment -- the questions themselves are useful in understanding what is considered high emotional intelligence. By the end, you'll know what EQ is, you'll know how to identify it, but in terms of improving your own EQ, this book leaves you to your own devices. Then again, knowing is half the battle. YMMV.

Great book on how grow your emotional intelligence. I believe this is the most important trait a person can have.
