Oakley mens Oo9039 Straight Jacket Sport Sunglasses

This review is for the Smoke Gray frame with Black Iridium lenses. This is my second pair of Oakely SJs. The frames are sturdy, hug the head firmly but not too tightly, and stay in place through even vigorous activity. They have proved themselves to be quite durable. Though it is subjective, I think they are attractive and appropriate with all but professional attire. These particular frames (Smoke Gray) are pretty cool: transparent gray off the head, but look virtually black when worn. Weird. The lenses (Black Iridium) are a standard dark gray. They are nice for a sunny or extremely sunny day. They don't seem too dark to me, but others think they are too dark. The tint is pretty neutral, almost a little on the cold side in that they flatten out contrast a bit and make colors seem a bit muted. Like other Oakley lenses I have tried, these are very resistant to flare (bright flashes/glare when at certain angles to the sun), very resistant to showing unwanted reflections on the lens' inner surfaces, etc. In other words, good optical quality. I've not tried the polarized version of these lenses, but imagine that if glare bothers you (esp if you spend a lot of time on or near water and other highly reflective surfaces), they may be the better option - though Revo and Maui Jim offer polarized lenses that are nearly as good as Oakley's and at competitive prices. I would have bought the polarized version, but these were so much less money and glare is not a big problem for me.

Great pair of Oakleys

$100+ is a lot for a pair of sunglasses, but it was well worth the investment. I would most often use cheap $10 pairs of sunglasses that would break after a couple months and broke my most recent pair. I decided to take the chance in the investment and was glad I went with Oakley. The sunglasses (Polished Black/Black Iridium) are sturdy, comfortable, and work very nicely. They are a comfortable mix of shade without being too tinted. There's a little rubber on the inside that sits well on my head. I have forgotten that I am wearing them at times while driving. Recommended.

Since these are discontinued I had to get them and I truly love it. Simple design but looks professional. The lenses are not too big or too small the field of view is good. I love the rubber pieces along the side of the frame still grips with sweat. I can wear them all day and not get pinching or headaches. It really grinds my gears when a frame is too loose and I have to get straps and it just looks over the top now but these shades are not the case. I will most likely buy another pair or lenses in the future!

I've always been a fan of Oakley Sunglasses. Juliet's have always been my favorite model, but they've been discontinued and finding shades that wrap around my head securely has been difficult. But the Oakley Straight Jacket was the answer! They fit perfectly and wrap around my head comfortably to keep them secure and in place at all times. The polarized lens really make the difference in making the world around me pop with vibrant colors and increased visibility. I have had them for about 3 months now and have zero scratches on the lens. The frames look really cool too, it's a great style. I prefer to have metal frames, but these frames are very durable and excellent quality. I was surprised. Definitely a great buy for the money.

This is the second pair I’ve owned. First pair were lost after 7 years and I was just happy I could replace them! They are without a doubt the toughest pair of sunglasses I’ve ever had. Fantastic lens quality. Not much else to say.... love them!

Meine erste Oakley-Brille habe ich auf Empfehlung meines damaligen Fahrradhändlers schon vor über 25 Jahren gekauft. Damals hat Oakley mit dem Slogan "Thermonuclear Protection" geworben. Klingt leicht übertrieben und ziemlich martialisch, aber wenn man die physikalische Grundlage für das Sonnenlicht kennt, weiß man, dass es ganz anders gemeint und sogar richtig ist. :-) Seitdem trage ich Oakley-Sonnenbrillen. Zwischendurch habe ich mal einen Abstecher zu Adidas (Evil Eye pro) und Brico gemacht, aber am Ende blieb es doch wieder bei Oakley. Diese Straight Jacket ist meine sechste oder siebte Oakley-Brille, und auch meine Frau trägt eine, und zwar aus gutem Grund. Es mag Brillengläser von ähnlicher Qualität bei anderen Herstellern geben, aber im Segment der Sport- und sportlichen Brillen kenne ich keinen, der Oakley auch nur annähernd das Wasser reichen kann. Das gilt sowohl für die Qualität als auch die Auswahl an Gläsern, von den Gestellen ganz zu schweigen. Ein Brillengestell ist immer Geschmacks- und Typsache. Nicht jede Oakley-Brille ist etwas für jeden Käufer, und das gilt auch für mich. Die Oakley Straight Jacket ist eine Brille für ein etwas breiteres, markanteres Gesicht und passt wegen ihrer wuchtigen Bügel gut auf einen größeren Kopf. Die Brillengläser sitzen bei mir schön mittig vor den Augen und decken fast das komplette Sichtfeld ab. Die Passform dieser Brille ist damit für mich optimal. Mit der Straight Jacket trage ich eine Brille, die sportlich leger wirkt, aber nicht nach ausgesprochener Sportbrille aussieht (für diesen Zweck trage ich eine andere Oakley-Brille ;-). Das Highlight dieser Brille sind aber die Gläser. Bei allen mir bekannten Oakley-Brillen stehen diverse Varianten zur Auswahl. Die hohe optische Qualität der Oakley-Brillengläser wird durch ein aufwendiges Fertigungsverfahren erreicht (wen's interessiert, liest mehr dazu auf der offiziellen Oakley-Website) und überzeugt mich seit Jahrzehnten immer wieder. Bei der Auswahl von Sonnenbrillengläsern ist die Resthelligkeit ein wichtiger Gesichtspunkt. Oakley bietet Brillengläser mit einem Restlicht von über 20% bis 9% des einfallenden Lichts an. Von zu dunklen Brillen bekomme ich selbst in extrem hellen Umgebungen wie z.B. auf der Skipiste bei strahlendem Sonnenschein sehr schnell Kopfweh. Deshalb habe ich ein relativ helles Glas mit 16% Lichtdurchlässigkeit gewählt. Die leichte Verspiegelung (daher das Attribut "Iridium" des Glases) reduziert Lichtreflexe und verbessert die Sicht mit dieser Brille besonders in Umgebungen mit Blendeffekten (Autofahren bei tiefstehender Sonne z.B.!). Die wesentliche Eigenschaft der von mir gewählten Brillengläser ist aber der eingebaute Polfilter, der nur Lichtstrahlen in einer bestimmen Schwingungsebene durchlässt. Der Effekt ist besonders bei Blendeffekten und Dunst verblüffend: Blendungen werden erheblich reduziert, und Dunst verschwindet fast völlig. Zusammen mit der neutralen grauen Grundfarbe des Glases ergibt sich damit tatsächlich bei entsprechenden Umgebungen eine Sicht, die der Wahrnehmung mit bloßen Auge deutlich überlegen ist. Die Straight Jacket ist ein älteres Brillenmodell von Oakley, aber nach wie vor im Katalog zu finden. Das spricht für ihr Design, sonst wäre sie schon längst rausgeflogen. In meinen Augen ist die Straight Jacket ein Klassiker. Dass sie kein topaktuelles Modell ist, hat also nur Vorteile, denn für den Preis, den ich bezahlt habe, bekommt man bei Oakley sonst keine verspiegelten, polarisierenden Gläser (und mit weniger sollte man sich bei einer Oakley-Brille nicht zufrieden geben ;-)). Der einzige Wermutstropfen ist das etwas billig wirkende Plastik des Brillengestells. Dies ist meine zweite Oakley Straight Jacket - meine erste war eine im Farbton Root Beer mit bronzenen, ebenfalls polarisierenden, aber nicht verspiegelten Gläsern, und deren Gestell wirkt deutlich wertiger als das der neuen Brille. Nasen- und Ohrenbügel sind mit einem speziellen Gummi ('Unobtainium' hat Oakley ihn getauft) überzogen, der auch nicht rutscht, wenn er z.B. von Schweiß feucht wird, den Tragekomfort erhöht und auch nach Jahren noch gut ist, wie ich von meiner ersten Straight Jacket bezeugen kann. Leider kann ich keine 4,5 Sterne vergeben, sondern nur 4. Da es wegen des Gestells aber für 5 nicht reicht, bleibt es eben bei vier. Dieser Faktor ist für mich aber zweitrangig. Die Gläser reißen einfach alles raus, und für den Preis ist diese Brille ein Schnäppchen. Ja, das war ein wahres Loblied auf Oakley-Brillen. Ich bin aber kein bezahlter Oakley-Agent (wirklich, wirklich!), sondern von diesen Brillen einfach restlos überzeugt und begeistert.
